After hearing about this place in the Sydney Morning Herald, we decided to check this place out on a Saturday night. We booked a few days earlier and I’m glad we did, guess I’m not the only person who reads the SMH. This place was packed! There’s a sign above the counter which reads, «we don’t serve fast food, we serve good food». So don’t except your meal in a hurry. But trust me, it’s worth it. Order the mixed dips plate to get you started — the beetroot dip is incredible. While there isn’t a great selection of mains, there’s still something for everyone. I had the lamb shanks and was blown away. There’s no need to drive to Surry Hills for a dining experience, Meze Me is the place to be.(Wow that rhymes).

Going to see family out in the ‘burbs for some auntie time with gorgeous twins and their equally attractive parents. Instead of ordering in or cooking we are going to Rouse Hill for dinner — I wasn’t sure what to expect. But everyone take note — Rouse Hill delivers — Meze Me is fantastic, from the venue to the food and the service. It’s set in Mungerie House, which is a renovated historical cottage in the middle of a park, complete with kids playground and offers an alternative setting to a restaurant in a shopping centre(like lots out here) and a bogan pub bistro. Young mum of the aforementioned 18 month old twins in our family entourage called ahead to check if they could handle some specific dietary requirements. Affirmative response with the chefs on hand to answer questions about meal contents and then some bonus handy advice to come either before 6.30 or after 7.30 as there were expecting some large groups. Great, on our way! Service was friendly, attentive and left nothing to chance. The waitress gave advice on amounts of food to order and the style in which we could share small plates. She even convinced one of our vego friends to eat salmon for the first time in years(with no regrets). Everything we ate was great, dishes include Cauliflower and Eggplant with pine nuts and tahini, almond chicken with cous cous, grilled salmon skewers, lamb kofta and hummous in a wrap, as well as prawns wrapped in prosciutto. Allergy riddled twins ate vegetarian moussaka with pleasure, probably ensuring their allergy will not be grown out of any time soon with top notch tucker like that. Despite being full dessert sounded too good to refuse, with the affogato being an absolute experience and the crème brûlée and meringue too much to finish. The café style setting and casual atmosphere makes it great for families with kids. There is a kids’ menu(which I would happily dine on) and the main menu is also accessible for the little ones. The playground and grass just outside means that kids can escape and leave their parents in peace. The only downside was the indoor/outdoor aspect — people coming in and out all the time with outside tables and the park being right there. This would be absolute gold during the day but at night was a little chilly. Parking is plentiful, prices are reasonable from the outset and damn good value once you have tasted the food and experienced the service. I want to go back and order the rest of the menu, as I am sure I missed some tasty stuff.
