Hollywood Palace is anything but glamorous. A den of fast food with images of celebrities up on the wall it nonetheless manages to hold out against the onslaught of healthy and organic foods stores and cafes that are springing up along the road. This place does fast food and although you’ll see some lettuce and maybe a couple of tomatoes, the real appeal here is the meat. I wouldn’t try anything else on the menu until you have had a kebab or souvlaki. This is what Hollywood Palace does best. The serving sizes are enormous so make sure you have spent all your energy shopping on Bridge Road on an empty stomach. While Hollywood Palace offers some other options like fry-ups, I really do think that the kebabs and souvlakis are the highlights of the menu with lots of meat and sauce. The service is fine, not overly friendly but not rude. Make sure you pack some gum for after otherwise the garlic will be on your breath all day.

Don’t come here during daylight hours. It’s that simple. With Bridge road in Richmond serving as a boutique destination for shoppers, if your after a nice lunch there’s plenty of other cafes and restaurants to eat at whilst enjoying the surrounds in a bit of style. Hollywood Palace is strangely out of place on this strip. The service is pretty poor, the place itself is a bit tired, but one thing Hollywood Palace is good for is a late night feed. This restaurant, is really a take away shop at heart, traditional Greek food served by Greek staff. Expect a gasp if you try and order your souvlaki without garlic sauce. Expect a strange look and a quiet word between the cooks if you ask for the vegetarian option. These guys are here all night,(I’ve never seen this place closed) and have gained a reputation for serving the best souvlakis in Richmond, although keep in mind these reviews are pretty much all done by those who visit after midnight. When out on the town, and ready to head home, it has become common to have a laugh and say«Hollywood Palace!» Its then either a drunken walk or pit stop on the drive home to get a souvlaki, chips and maybe even a beer if eating in. With a recent price jump putting the late night snack at about $ 10 more than you’d pay for a meal at Hungry Jacks around the corner, Hollywood Palace isn’t for everyone, but they don’t really care. With the amount of hungry revellers that stop by here on their way home, I think Hollywood Palace will be open all night for a long time to come.
