Elite Event: Meet the Brewer

I believe the RSVP selections for this event allowed you to select «beer newbie» or «beer geek». Well, there was never a question as to what I would pick. After all, I do have a Unilocal list called «brewery tour-​ery». Brewery tours combine my most favorite of pastimes — Drinking and learning things. But, this exceeded expectations. First, Miro, our guide put all other beer tours to shame with his enthusiasm and knowledge. After, we met the co-​founder, Dave, who told us the story of Mountain Goat. We tried samples of some of their rarer beers like a barrel aged ale. The complexity and range of the beers was impressive. Then we dined like hedonists on more beer and pizza. This place has been on my list since I moved to Melbourne, and I am so glad my introduction was at this amazing Elite Event. The Man and I have already been plotting our next trip.

You had me at ‘beer’. You had me ridiculously excited at ‘Mountain Goat beer’.
Have visited this brewery quite a few times and I didn’t need the bias of free beer at this fantastic Unilocal event to help me proclaim it home of some of the best beer in all of this fair land (but the free beer was pretty ace. thanks for that!).
If you’re just familiar with the Steam, Hightail and Summer ales you need to get down here on a Wednesday or Friday night to try the full range of what they can do — often ‘experiment’ beers that you can only get here and wont be around long.
The big winner for me this time around was the Imperial Pilsner. Delicious and full tasting but perfect session beer too. Possibly the best Pilsner I’ve had, no kidding.
The tour was good fun too — you may only move about ten metres spatially during the whole tour, but in terms of beer knowledge and passion we travelled a lot further. Tour guide Miro was fantastic and very inclusive — no room for beer snobs here, just beer lovers — and it was great to have some chats with co-​founder and head brewer Dave afterwards. Such a nice humble guy for a craft beer rockstar!
Pizza rounded the night off perfectly and made sure we left with happy tastebuds and bellies full of more than just beer! Thanks Unilocal for another winning evening!

I thoroughly enjoyed this event. I adore craft beer and Mountain Goat has yet to disappoint! I’d been on the brewery tour some years ago but a refresher was definitely in order. Its always fascinating to hear how one of my favourite beverages is made. Then came the samples… ALL THE SAMPLES! I picked a silly day to be designated driver. Everything was so delicious, especially the watermelon beer and pilsner. The pizzas were scrumptious too! Best of all was the company. Miro and Dave have so much passion and it really shows. They were a delight to meet and swap stories with. A really enjoyable evening! Big thanks to the team for the organising and generosity.

Definitely one of my favourite events so far. I’m not a huge beer fan, but Mountain Goat is pretty high up there on my boyfriend’s favourite beer list so I definitely scored major points by bringing him along. Mountain Goat Brewery is in a beautiful warehouse space that has been carefully designed and furnished with plenty of creative, sustainable materials — such as an old canoe to sit on!
We started the tour with a beer and the bar, and luckily for me the bar staff were nice enough to give me a cider. Our tour guide was the perfect combination of funny, enthusiastic and knowledgable, so I learned a ton about how beer is actually made. This was my first ever brewery tour so it was pretty awesome learning about the process. It was also great hearing about how the brewery actually started as a business!
The beer tasting was top notch and the pizzas were an awesome way to end the evening. This was a seriously fantastic event, thank you to everyone involved!

I was absolutely delighted when I got to be one of the lucky ones that was to attend this highly sought after Elite event.
Having been to Mountain Goat before and drinking many of their beers before, I was absolutely excited to see behind the scenes and understand how the whole operation worked behind the scenes.
Miro, oh wow. What a character — his passion, enthusiasm and love of the barley malt and hops was inspiring. I wish I had that much passion for something.
The tour was grand, really not much to it, but the amount of information that was punched into us, priceless.
Trying the malt was a highlight, but also I think my undoing. The burnt toast malt got me and made me feel awful.
However, we solider on for a bit and left in the incredibly capable hands of Dave.
I managed to last to the hightale ale tasting before my feelings of ill became too much and I had to make a premature exit.
However what I did get out of it was an amazing understanding of their eco and organic ways, making myself happy that I already was drinking Mountain Goat steam ale as my beer of choice. I love the fact that they encourage/​wage incentify them to ride or seek alternative transport to work that doesn’t involve cars. I’m sure there were other things that I missed, but guys — if you need a project manager in the future — hit me up.

Mel. This was my first Unilocal event in Melbourne, and I loved it. MG is a place where I will return; though I am no avid beer drinker, and as I keep a keen eye on my calories, I will make ‘room’ for those cals from Mountain Goat. These were guys who brew with passion.

This was my first Melbourne Unilocal Elite event and man was it awesome! Mountain Goat brewery makes some top quality beers, so everyone was excited! We started off with a beer of our choice, because thats how all beer tours should start. The tour was incredibly informative, and the tour guides enthusiasm and love of beer made it all that more special! I love that they are so dedicated to being eco friendly and organic.
The brewery atmosphere is awesome, you can choose from tables to high bar stools to couches and its a really comfy environment. Once we were seated, the brewer came out and answered all of our questions and they brought around tastings of each beer. Then came the PIZZA, wow that was good and needed to soak up all the awesome beer I consumed.
Will return and continue to promote and consume the amazing beers they offer!

What could be worse than waking up twelve hours before a beer tasting with a horrible head cold and no sense of taste to speak of? Okay, many things, but I have a penchant for melodrama. That aside, dragging my sick self and a very excited husband to this event was painful, because I knew that all the delicious beers in store would be lost on me – yet, it was too late to cancel! I figured I would grin and bear it. Luckily, Mel and the stunning staff at Mountain Goat Brewery took the «bear» out of the equation, as I left this event just plain grinning.
Sorry, guys, I can’t tell you what the beer was like, though I can tell you they had everything from an organic stout that sounded delightful for the season to a «melon-​collie» watermelon ale served in stemmed beer glasses. I bet they were delicious. I had a moment of bliss and taste bud activation after popping a cold pill and tasted the hightail ale, and the toffee, caramely notes of that really wowed me. I didn’t have to pretend to be enthused, I was legitimately enraptured in the tour. .
What I can rate fairly was the tour. I thought I’d just have to drag my tired, achy body through and pretend to be wowed for the sake of my husband, who was, again, really excited to be there, but Miro had Alton-​Brown-​levels of knowledge and a Zach-​Galifinakis-​type beard and wit that made the tour something really extraordinary. He was funny and educational, but above all, passionate – his philosophical musings on beer would impress Socdates himself. This guy should write a book, because even as just a beer novice who doesn’t know the difference between a pilsner and a lager, I’d want to read it. Also, I could almost smell the hops he passed around! I left feeling twenty times more passionate about beer than when I started, and for an (albeit brief) moment I considered trying home brewing, so inspired was I by the true element of craft embraced by Mountain Goat.
So, I’m sorry Mel and fellow Unilocalers for not being able to wax poetic on the food and drink of the evening (though I did try! Curse you, rhinovirus.) But for the tour, charisma, and atmosphere of MG alone, five stars is easy. I cannot wait to return with some friends when my nose is more forgiving.

What an excellent venue for a Unilocal Event and an intro to the upcoming Good Beer Week.
The Mountain Goat Brewery has been a favourite of ours since we moved to Melbourne, however as it’s only open on Wednesday and Friday we haven’t been able to make it there as often as we’d like.
The event was started with picking a beer to have. The staff are patient and knowledgeable about their beers. I selected the delightful Imperial Pilsner, a small batch not available anywhere else. I would highly recommend it, it tasted more like a saison than a pilsner but it’s very strong! He being hops mad, selected Fancy Pants poured through «The Randal» (aka «the hopinator»).
With everyone gathered our enthusiastic guide (Miro?) took is on our tour. I’ve been on a lot of brewery tours in my life but he definitely took it to a higher level. It was not only informative, interesting, interactive but also fun. Tour guide of the year award vote from me. I’d love to get his contact details to pick his brain about NYC breweries!
With the tour completed we had various beers introduced to us by Dave, the founder of the brewery. He was also very passionate and friendly.
Then came the pizzas. Boy have they come a long way since the frozen pizza cooked on a conveyer belt contraption behind the bar. They all tasted fab and there simply isn’t anything that goes as well with beer!
As much as I loved it, the other half was ecstatic. He’s been a «Goater» since before most people had even heard of the brewery. This was xmas for him.
I was happy to see other beer loving women, some like me even drinking pints!!!

A lucky group of Elites spent the night enjoying the pillars of civilization. Or, in other words, beer and pizza. Miro started the night off with a passionate tour of the brewery. I’m slightly obsessed with brewery tours, so it was great that this one went beyond the basics of «hops, yeast, water, and malt.» And I was even more delighted to hear about the brews first hand from co-​founder Dave.
Mountain Goat was great at taking care of our group of Unilocalers. Multiple beer samples made the rounds during Dave’s talk followed by trays of hot, steamy pizzas. The venue provided a great atmosphere to devour these tasty treats and converse with fellow beer lovers. It had been awhile since my last visit to the Mountain Goat brewery and this event reminded me how much I enjoy it. Thanks for a rockin’ night Mountain Goat and Mel!

Beer and pizza– a match made in heaven! As a non beer drinker but a serious pizza lover I was super impressed with Mountain Goat brewery.
The staff here are super friendly and super knowledgable about all beverages on offer. Despite being on more brewery tours than I’d like to admit, I learnt quite a bit from the enthusiastic tour guide. As did my home brewer plus 1! Great tour and great tasting session.
Perks of this place is the variety of beers on tap, beverages in general and funky décor. Do yourself a hue favour and try the pulled pork pizza
