On this, my sixtieth check in, I can say i am loyal to no other place on Victoria street. It’s not fancy, it’s not flash, it might not even be Vietnamese like a Vietnamese grandmother would make, but I like it. The waiter usually never even pretends to remember me or my usual order but today seems special. This place has all the usuals, you’ll note the phở is msg-free, and they’ll even chuck your beers in the fridge for you if you byo. Just don’t forget them on the way out if you forget to finish them off…

My partner & I took my Vietnamese mom when she was visiting from the states last Christmas — in the 1.5 hours we dined, she managed to befriend the owners/managers, and now they recognize us every time we come, even though my mother has since returned to the US. The menu is both varied & tasty(a lot of the meals remind me of my mom’s cooking growing up) and the staff is quite accommodating. We’ve been to other Viet restaurants on Victoria Street that were fine before finding Co Do, but this one has now become our family’s first choice anytime we eat out Vietnamese.

Everyone who has been to Victoria Street more than once has a ‘local’. The place they’ll recommend to everyone and say it has the best phở/rice paper rolls/three-colour drink on the street. That place for me is Co Do. Let me break this meal down for you so you know exactly what to order. 1. Buy a cheap bottle of wine from the bottle shop next door(it has weird cacti out the front, you’ll know it when you see it) 2. Pork spring rolls 3. Classic beef phở 4. Layer that chilli on like a hero 5. Enjoy weekly for as long as you live. You’re welcome.

Well, there are so many restaurants along Victoria Street that I wonder if I am ever going to have a chance to try them all. Then again there are so many wonderful restaurants in Melbourne itself that I guess having a meal at each one is nigh impossible. However this was my latest sample of the many fine Vietnamese/Chinese restaurants around here and I must say that it was pretty good. They don’t serve alcohol, but they do have delicious smoothies on their menu, as well as a free pot of Chinese tea with your order(which I think is really cool). The meal came out relatively prompty, and was really filling. I would personally highly recommend this place, even if only for the smoothie.

Huge menu with tons of options for everyone in your party. I tried the phở ga — it was decent but I wouldn’t get it again. The bun bo hue was fantastic! I loved it. Rice paper rolls are good and fresh though I wish they would come out before my hot food. Co Do has tasty food, is clean, and we will be back lots!

This place never disappoints with fast service and delicious food. Always easy to get a table(8 is about a good number to fine with) I ventured off the normal track for me and had the Broken Rice. Before this however I had the Satay skewers, and trust me, these guys know how to do satay. Delicious. Mains was again delicious as expected, with a generally well balanced flavour, and tender pork. Always a little load inside, but super fast service and BYO everything.

Extensive and delicious menu. Haven’t tried their phở yet so i can’t distinguish it from other Richmond places in that regard.

Mighty good for a small Vietnamese place amongst many others. My order every single time: pork spring rolls to share, wonton noodle soup with vegetables and hubby gets braised beef noodle soup. The bowls of soup are huge and cost $ 9. Add chilli flakes, a bit of soy and mmmmm. We’ve ordered other menu items and went back to the soup, its the best :-) We usually walk away paying around $ 25-$ 28 depending on if we ordered soft drinks. Oh yah, thermos of tea on each table. Always busy, but haven’t had to wait long before.

Taste, smells and sounds of Vietnam. The best Phở and Broken Rice outside of Vietnam. We have been coming to Victoria st for many years and our Vietnamese friends recommended this place. We come almost every week. It’s cheap, fresh and tasty. Not fine dining bit it’s damn good.
