One of my favourite ways to spend an evening is gorging myself on Vietnamese food in Richmond, and one of the best ways to make sure that you have a cheap night out is to pop into the Australian Cleanskin store on Swan Street and grab a bottle of wine to BYO. Selling an incredible range of wines from a multitude of regions, Australian Cleanskin is particularly good if you know a little about wine — say, that the Barossa Valley’s Shiraz’s are exemplary or that you can’t go wrong with a Cabernet Merlot from Margaret River — and the prices are extremely good. I usually opt for a bottle at around the $ 10 mark as I’ve heard frightening things about Australian Cleanskin’s $ 3 and $ 4 bottles, and although quality is hit and miss you can definitely find a few diamonds in the rough if armed with a little wine know-how and the desire to try something new.
