Imagine a dispotian world where people queue up for coffee religiously every morning. Then, with coffee in hand, they trudge off to work grumpy and unhappy. Then they take a sip of coffee and it is all awesome, until they see 210 emails waiting for attention. Sip, awseome, email, sip, awesome, email… kind of like 1984, but with taste.

Time for a well earned review of 7 Grams, what can I say, 7 Grams is an institution on Church Street, Richmond, where at 5.30am Monday to Friday you can grab one of the best coffees in Melbourne, not to mention the Super Size a size that makes Starbucks Venti look like a ‘shot’. Great service to boot from the owner, ‘George’ who has passion and drive with a great 5.30am personality to boot. Selection of great bagels, toasted sandwhiches and wraps along with a daily fare as well. This is a must see in Church Street.

Mmmmm, lunch! 7 Grams sure knows how to hit the spot. I used to venture here quite regularly for lunch when I worked down the road on Church Street. And I ventured back again the other day when I was in the area and hunger struck. And boy am I glad I did. They have lots of options: sandwiches, wraps, focaccia & a selection of hot food. None of which I have tried because of the incredible range of super tasty salads on offer. And these aren’t your boring green tasteless salads. Think falafel, brown rice, roasted sweet potato, Greek, tuna, quinoa, freekah, potato, tabouli, beetroot and more! Choose your size(small or large), to have in(for an extra $ 1) or take away and then pick which ones you want. They load them into your container and away you go. I’ve tried many different ones, this last time included 4 types: roast sweet potato, freekah, tabouli & falafel salad — a bit of a middle eastern slant, totally delicious and healthy to boot, getting in a good couple of serves of veggies for lunch! I couldn’t finish the whole thing(large takeaway container) so I ate half and saved the rest for alongside dinner that evening. Delish! I’ve also heard great things about the coffee, but haven’t tried it myself. They are only open Monday to Friday, but they open super early(pre 6am) for your pre work coffee. There are a few outdoor tables that are good for a sunny day, but no room inside to sit and eat so you might need to takeaway if the weather ain’t great. Friendly & efficient service tops it all off. Highly recommend you check it out if you work in the area or are passing through!

In need of a coffee and a bit to eat I ventured into 7 grams. Whilst sipping on my well made skinny latte I could not decide what to eat from all the options in front of me. Wraps, foccacia’s, roti wraps and then hot food as well. I settled for a delicious vegetarian roti wrap and a side of risoni salad. I was impressed with both. A great little place well worth the stop if your hungry and in the area.

I used to work on Church Street a while ago and 7 Grams was my favourite take out place in the area. Besides the fact that it is mostly always crowded and is a hit with the office crowd around this region, 7 Grams really is a gem this side of Richmond It carries a large range of salads and sandwiches but it is usually the hot food that I love. I remember having a lamb curry before and I was talking about it to my colleagues for days after. On top of that, 7 Grams is renowned to have pretty good coffees so if you need a hit, this is your stop. And because it is so busy all the time, the staff behind the counter are always attentive and offer friendly, efficient service. They recognise regulars and very often memorise your coffee order so you can get in and out quickly. Only issue I had is they don’t open on weekends and there is no seating indoors with very limited seating outside so the option to eat there is limited.

Not dissimilar to myself, this place idealizes coffee and the culture that it promotes. A family run business that has been in the heart of Richmond for many years serves each cup of coffee with precision and dedication. Cemented by their display of awards and trophies, you can tell upon ordering that they are itching to make you a coffee and if there are crowds passing in and out(which there will most likely will be on a weekday) their commitment to the coffee cause never waivers. Roasted almost to heavenly perfection each sip of my skinny milk latte was silky smooth. Definitely a winner in my books!
