Oaks Mon Komo

Mon Komo and its restaurant Caribbee have been open for some time now but I had never gone there — despite being an ex-​Redcliffe girl. Finally today went down to try out the restaurant for brunch and was pleasantly surprised.
The setting was beautiful (helped by the stunning spring day!), chairs comfortable and was a nice spot to just chill and enjoy the moment. The food was surprisingly good. My choice of roasted mushrooms on sourdough with feta was beautiful — the bread seemed to be home made and was lovely. My other diner’s Eggs Benedict was equally as good. Both looked amazing on the plates they were served on.
The only downside was the service. The guy waiter was quite flippant and kept walking whilst answering our query. The barista served a mug of mocha in a small glass and wondered why we questioned what it was. Needless to say the attitude exuding from them wasn’t comfortable. However, and here’s a shock, when the floor manager started duty their entire demeanor changed. The manager served us our meals and was extremely professional and polite (obviously knows his trade).
Lastly on the staff, can the management reconsider their uniforms. They look so hicksville and just don’t suit the tropical & laidback feel tof your décor.
Overall, pleasant experience and would certainly go here again. Looking forward to trying out an evening meal in this setting — and maybe a small afternoon session on a Sunday in summer. :)

If you are looking for accommodation in the Redcliffe/​Woody Point area… this hotel is a must. We went to Queensland for the long weekend, to visit my sister and her family. My husband and I had recently celebrated our third wedding anniversary, and so we were looking for somewhere nice to spend a couple of nights. I dont think we could have asked for nicer :)
We had a one bedroom apartment on the 10^th floor overlooking the ocean. The Oakes Mon Komo is part of a bigger building that has some residential accomodation as well. There are two towers to the building, the Residential tower and the Oakes tower. The Oakes tower has a range of apartments, a mix of 1,2 and 3 bedroom apartments. With a choice of Ocean View or non Ocean View.
In my opinion it is DEFINITELY worth paying the little bit extra for the ocean view — the view that we had was spectacular and the sea breeze was just divine :)
The apartment was fully equipped, with fully kitchen (including stove, oven, microwave and dishwasher), laundry with washer and dryer, and a fantastic balcony!
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the whole experience from an accommodation point for view was great.
However, the one and only thing that I do have to complain about was the food from the restaurant. On our first night there — we ordered take away food from the restaurant downstairs. I had to go down and collect it, and my husbands risotto was great. However, the food that my sister and I ordered left a lot to be desired. We ordered a cheese platter, which was fine, and a bowl of chips which were served in a styrofoam container, and so they were VERY soggy by the time I got them back to our room, and although I ordered them with tomato sauce as well as aioli, there was no sauce to be seen.
But with the food aside, the accommodation experience was fantastic. :) As far as accommodation goes, this is a definite YES. Just maybe choose one of the many other options for food in the area. :)

My partner and I visited Mon Komo for a friend’s birthday dinner as they had been there before for drinks and enjoyed the atmosphere.
I, however, was quite disappointed.
The menu items were a little pricey, but didn’t seem to be up to the quality I would expect for such expensive meals. I’ve had much better meals for cheaper. The wait staff were slow and unhelpful. When only half of our large party had arrived, one waitress stood at the end of the table and mumbled the specials and walked away ignoring any questions.
I wouldn’t choose to come back here again, but it wasn’t so bad that I would refuse to visit if someone else had decided to have a dinner here.

I don’t feel that Mon Komo has achieved well what they set out to.
Upon first glance, the place looks nice. Actually, it looks great. It’s sleep, large open ceilings, nice furniture. It’s nice to be in.
They have advertised themselves as having «world class bars and dining». I’m not sure where this come’s from. The bar is just a bar. It’s not too full, basically the same as any bar you would find out of the CBD. I sat down for a meal on Saturday night, and the waitress who served us didn’t get anyone’s attention before speedily listing off the specials. After checking out the average priced food, I ordered the risotto. It was nice. Not world class. And I’ve had a lot of meals in Brisbane better than that for the same price. But it wasn’t bad.
They’ve set themselves up to be such a nice restaurant, but haven’t followed through with their staff. I’d prefer to go to a pub down the road. I’m yet to stay at the hotel myself, but my friend wasn’t impressed — but I won’t rate on that, simply pass it on if you’re interested.
