I have been here a few times for Trivia night and despite the fact that I am trivia challenged, I have had a great time. The last time was especially busy so maybe word is getting out. The host is nice and energetic, he is average when it comes to witty entertaining comments but no one really goes to trivia night for the host. The content is not bad, some of it is definitely directed at an older generation but as I expect not to be the team genius, this is fine for me. There are places to park if you are driving(and not drinking obviously) and the food has this cool salad bar type thing that you can pick from(from what I saw as only my friends ordered food). I cannot really comment on the food or drink because I come just for the trivia!

Went to this place on a Friday night when there weren’t too many specials going, so we found the food to be fairly overpriced for what it was, which was pretty standard pub food with a decent salad bar. They lose a star for something fairly trivial(if you don’t want to read about our first world problems, skip this paragraph!) that nonetheless affected our enjoyment of the evening. We went there on the night of an Asian Cup quarter final, but they were showing ABC news on half their TVs. We had to request the Asian Cup four different times over a period of about 20 minutes before we were finally told that they only had Fox Sports 1&2(I remember this happening when Fox Sports 3 first appeared but I hadn’t heard of it as a thing for about 5 years, especially at a pub that calls itself a sports bar). If someone had come to explain the issue to us one of the first three times that would have been great, and we could have either left or relaxed and got on with our dinner. As it was we got more and more frustrated watching the 730 report while following the scintillating match on Twitter. On the upside the staff were all friendly and smiled a lot.

How has this place not been reviewed yet??? DOG recently underwent a makeover and the result is actually a pretty nice pub as well as a beer garden for drinking and hanging out. My friends and I went for trivia last night and I’m convinced it’s my new favorite trivia spot– for someone with average intelligence and who doesn’t know a bunch of random facts it was refreshing to be able to answer a fair share of the trivia questions. Most places in Sydney make trivia some sort of elite event, but the DOG got it spot on– great time to mingle with friends but also some good fun with the questions. The trivia master also gives out booze bucks for most creative team name, so if you’re REALLY not that intelligent come with something creative(our team was«We Don’t Cheat like Gwyneth Paltrow) and you stand a fair chance of getting $ 15 off your bar tab. In addition to having great trivia, Wednesday night is $ 12 schnitzel. You can get it lots of different ways for your $ 12 and the plates are MASSIVE. You could easily share the goodness with a friend and still be full afterward. Bit of a trek if you don’t live in the Randwick/Clovelly area but the 339 bus drops off literally right in front of it, so worth a trip to check it out!
