Established in 2012.

El Cielo (The Heaven), is a company established by passionate Mexican-​Australians dedicated to serve the Melbourne restaurant market and Mexican food lovers with quality ingredients and outstanding customer service.

Traditional Mexican cuisine is full of healthy ingredients supplying important nutrients and offering exciting flavours from each different region of Mexico.

Ancient Mexico had a mainly vegetarian diet, with chillies as the main antioxidant and more than 40 different types of corn. Spanish colonization brought exciting new flavours from the Middle East and Europe, creating a fusion of food that is now considered a heritage of humanity by UNESCO.

The essence of Mexican food is considered by ancient Mexico as a gift from above to lift your spirit and reach the sky.

Our aim is to promote Mexican culture in Melbourne, considered by many as the food capital of the Southern Hemisphere.

Business Owner

Behind much of Melbourne’s bustling Latino/​Mexicano food scene is El Cielo, the wholesale tortilla business run by Mexicans Cesar Duran and Javier Calzada which received a grant from the City of Melbourne during 2012. Their fresh-​made tortillas are sent everyday to discerning retailers, including top Mexican restaurants. They also sell salsas with traditional recipes, Mexican chillies and produce and organic agave syrup. The pair set up Melbourne’s first tortilleria, the Mexican equivalent of a bakery.
