Travel Doctor TMVC

I just went to the Travel Doctor to get some vaccinations for a trip to India and Nepal. I was very impressed.
When I booked I was told that I would need an hour for consult and vaccinations, no problem. Doctor was lovely, thorough and professional. I had got some idea about the vacinations I would need from my GP (as I was there for another reason) and was a bit shocked at how many she suggested (info straight from a website). I’m pretty savvy with this stuff, that’s the scientist in me!
The Travel Doctor did a lot more research into my specific requirements (and medical history) and I ended up not having to pay for a whole lot I didnt need. She even quoted new research and news relating to disease management. This is a lot more than just checking a list and shooting you in the arm, if ti was I would have been up for double the amount.
Vaccinations (the pharamceuticals) are always in the realm of $ 50 – 150 (or more — rapies shots are around $ 350!) so expect to pay that on top of your consult. The vaccinations are all claimable on your private health insurance if you have ancillary cover and the consult is just like a normal 1 hr doctors visit (around $ 90) which you can claim back on medicare, as standard.
Very impressed. I would definetly go here again instead of a GP with no specific travel experience.

Me & my 3 travel partners came here to get our vaccinations done for a 2 month long trip through India next month. We had a group appointment as we assumed this would save us some money.
The doctor we saw was very thorough, to the point where we became a little suspicious as this place works on a system where the longer your consult the more you pay.
In the end we were each slugged the maximum $ 92 consult fee and an extra $ 140 for our vaccination.
When we enquired as to why each of us was being charged the maximum consultation fee when all up it took an hour to see 4 patients we were just bluntly told — you all had a consult, so you all pay.
It seemed a little bit ridiculous as the doctor we saw, while a very nice man, spoke incredibly slowly and went off on several tangents about medications we were clearly not interested in.
The reception staff were all very friendly and helpful and it was obviously the system that let this place down.
I would recommend the travel doctor if you have absolutely no clue about the safety precautions for the country you will be travelling to, however if you are strapped for cash, just go see your GP and consult the many travel information websites available.
