yeah! this is good k-​bbq, grill at the table, soju slamming, kpop girls on big screen… and thats all ok because its tong 86 korean bbq! try it and see what i mean. It’s a LOT more fun than a brittish dinner!!! take your people there and order up big. GUNGNUM STYLE! (sorry i couldn’t hold that back…)

This place is awesome.
Grab a table with your mates and cook some meat on the bbq in front of you. I have been here a couple of times and I always find the staff to be attentive and polite.
Once you have placed your order of meats to cook, a variety of condiments come complimentary; kimchi, hot sauce and a couple of other salads that I am yet to identify but are equally as delicious.
The prices are mid range, nothing too expensive and nothing dirt cheap. The atmosphere here is sociable and they even have K-​pop playing in the background on the TV.
Make sure you grab some of the milky rice wine if you are feeling adventurous.

Tong 86 is no frills. The place smells oily, but it feels authentic and grungy, just like a Korean Bbq spot should feel like. The meats are mostly good, whack it on the hot plate and eat it while it’s hot. Wrap your meat in the lettuce. If you’re getting ox tongue slices don’t over grill it or it becomes too chewy. Get some liquor (soju or otherwise); beer and drinks. Have a fun conversation. The pancakes are sometimes good, sometimes less so, but they go well with your meal. Ask for it to be made crispier on the base if that’s how you like it. Get frequent top ups on the side dishes, at 50 cents each refill you’re not breaking the bank. The music videos playing on the wall are equal parts confusing and mesmerising. Grab a marker and graffiti your name on the wall. Order a side dish of raw mushrooms to grill. Get a soup to wash it down. I’m a fan of tong 86 even though there are other Korean Bbq places that look more scrubbed up and present their dishes to look prettier. Spray yourself down with some febreeze at the end of the meal before you leave. This is how you do the meal.

Came here a couple of years ago so it may of improved, but back at that moment in time, after eating my meal I questioned why my friends and I didn’t just cook our own food at home.
This restaurant has sort of a warehouse feel with tables with the stove top in the middle so you can cook the food yourself.
We ordered an assortment of meats and veggies. When our meat came out, it was completely frozen, not thawed out at all! We were given a pair of scissors to cut through the frozen meat which proved to be a bit difficult.
I remember the food tasting okay but it costed around $ 25.00 each for a meal that we had to cook ourselves and the food didn’t even seem fresh!
Since then I have been to Tokyo and have eaten at some amazing Korean BBQ places and this does not even compare!
I have not returned and I properly wouldn’t risk it again.

This place is pretty cool, its good and the atmosphere is great, it can just be super annoying if it’s a really busy night and only 2 staff members are running the floor taking orders and requests.
Food comes out pretty quickly though, seeing as it’s basically raw and you’re cooking it yourself you would hope so!
I love the idea of Korean bbq and these guys do it pretty well. I love the décor, kind of feels like you’re in a whole new place with really good food and company.
We basically ordered all meats and it came to only $ 26 each and we were all pretty full!
It’s a good spot and value for the food although not my favourite Korean bbq place in Perth.

When I step in this place I feel like I’m back in Korea. Excited banter, writing on the wall, a fridge filled with Soju and K-​Pop music keeping the crowds entertained.
The tables are cosy and while cooking your own food for dinner seems counter intuitive when you’re out at a restaurant it’s fun to make use of your scissors for cutting meat and getting to eat things sizzling fresh from the grill.
If you’ve never been to a Korean BBQ before you’d be wise to bring someone experienced along to show you the ropes, alas I’m sure there’s a YouTube video somewhere with helpful tips.
My best tip? Chuck some kimchi on the grill to toss in to your next wrap. Also, don’t be afraid to order more of the sides as they are so affordable at 50cents each. If the fit and active Koreans are any indication, Kimchi by the masses is a great idea.

I got the pork belly. It was pretty good, especially if you marinate with the red sauce and sesame oil before cooking. The problems I have with the place are that the service is mediocre at best, the table space is none, and it’s very hot inside the restaurant. The waiter took 10 minutes to take our order and didn’t know the sides that came with the BBQ. Not only that, but when you do get your food to cook, you have no space to place your utensils. I came with two others and we were fumbling with passing the tongs and scissors around.
The food was good, but I’d recommend only going with one other person, unless you are ok with eating off your lap and dripping sweat.

So many times before I knew them I walked pass and thought «why are they always busy?» and «they actually smell better than KFC». Until one day I decided to come in and ordered Pork Belly, Brisket, Kimchi Stew, Fishcake Soup and Kimchi Pancake. That’s a lot of food for the 3 of us, but we couldn’t help ourselves.
Forget about how noisy the place is, you hear a group of ten shouting on their table, making every shot of their Soju worth it. I also love listening to music while eating, so there goes K-​Pop music playing on a giant TV screen in front of you. Trust me, you’ll get hooked.
It’s been 2 years already, and I still go there pretty regularly. If you have to ask the guy behind the counter, they’d probably recognise me and my orders. I had to give them another star for finally having chicken on their menu. Marinated chicken. You’ll think it takes a while to cook chicken, but hell it tastes so good.
They give you lots of condiments too, so don’t worry too much about that. Although I never have enough and always ask for more.
There are tips for you too:
1) Never wear your best clothes because you will end up smelling like cows and pigs.
2) Turn the gas on to the max as soon as you finish ordering– so just in case you’re extremely hungry, you can throw everything in right away.
3) Drink enough soju because a party in a Korean restaurant is an experience you’ll always remember.
4) Feels like going out to get some attention after dinner at Tong is never a yes yes. Like I said before, the smell would put you off. It goes right into your body.
So when you happen to walk pass Tong, don’t hesitate. They know too well how to unbutton your pants.

I love Tong 86, the food is great. All the meat, kimchi pancake, and soju on the side, delicious. I bet the worker with the trendy hair and hat is reading this, he looks like he spend a lot of time in front of computer surfing the web and working on adobe programs.
The waiters can sometime look like they are having a bad day, but who cares if the food is great. Or do you care?

Went with a big group last Sunday. Was fantastic, good service they catered for us very well. Great building. All the food came out on time and was delicious!

Food that you cook yourself …
So came here again for a bite tonight with the gf. A good option when you are after something for not much money without much wait. The staff are pretty good at getting the BBQ’s up and running which can be more complicated then it seems at times. All the dishes come out very quick (I am assuming they are prepared earlier in the day).
No problems with the BBQ’s here ever. Always runs smoothly and it doesn’t take long to develop an appetite here once the meat starts cooking. The ox tongue and mushroom set are just some personal favorites that I recommend.
Not much else to say really. If you have never had this kind of dining experience before definitely give it a go. Good for a casual catch up with one or even a group of friends.
Points off for the fact they don’t marinade the meat here. Other BBQ places in NB and Perth do this. Having said that the sauces provided go quite well with the meat.

I think I might be the only person on the fence about Tong 86. I appreciate that Tong 86 has not become «Westernized». But, having a waiter/​ess that could define some of the menu items for us would have been great. We were left to order the three things that we knew/​understood which was brisket, steak, and an egg roll with cheese.
I found it incredibly humorous when the waitress arrived with a rolled up egg with cheese and ketchup on top. Shame on me for thinking it would be an actual fried egg roll with cheese, which personally sounds great. The egg was good and the best thing we ate here, but I wouldn’t call it «gourmet».
I’m sorry but I found the meat really flavorless. The meat arrived semi-​frozen and it hadn’t been marinated nor seasoned. There wasn’t even salt or pepper on the table. I’d never cook a steak on a griddle at home, and I wouldn’t pay for it either. I think the novelty of cooking your own food would wear off during the hotter months. For a cooler evening it was nice sitting near a hot plate. I always appreciate BYO too.

I like Tong 86. It looks a little dirty from outside, but is very fun once you’re in. Another good range of meats, assorted vegetables and some a la carte menu options. Good for a group, but can be difficult to fit around the small hot plate tables if it’s a big group!
It can be quite loud in Tong 86 due to the flat walls and floor, and not particularly ventilated so you leave smelling of dinner, but that also means you can smell everyone’s cooking as they’re doing it! Well worth a visit, but remember to take someone familiar with Korean BBQ ordering styles.

This restaurant is great! The food is tasty and in good quality. I often go here with my wife but I also highly recommend it for big groups. It gets loud so if you want a quiet dinner go somewhere else but it’s a lot of fun. The service is onto it and make sure you have everything you desire.
This gets as close to real Korean BBQ as it can in Perth!
A little tip: the smoke will make your clothes smelly so don’t wear you’re favorite dress.

I’m not a huge carnivore and so the idea of Korean BBQ — lotsa meat, cooked under your nose, by you — is a little daunting, but I was willing to conquer my inhibitions for this kind of party!
Tong 86 is an airy, warehouse eating hall, with plenty of tables and plenty of Koreans. The walls are scribbled with texta and the air is a buzz with people getting their hot-​plate nosh on.
Tong 86 takes you to another place, far away from Perth. The ambience is awesome and I’d come back for that alone… and some more of that Kimchi pancake. Yum!

Tong 86, is special, the food, the service and the fact it is kind of hidden away. I have been to many Korean restaurants and this has to be one of Perth’s best! I went to Korea a few years ago and it was there that I feel in love with the delicious cuisine.
This restaurant just about lives up to my expectations of this countries sensational food!

This is one of those places that if you blink you will miss it, and it was just somewhere I use to walk past all the time without considering eating here. However do yourself a favour and stop here for a bite to eat, its even better to come with friends.
It is so much more successful as a Korean BBQ place. It is a fabulous way to eat your meal. The food is tasty and the prices are cheap, we really enjoy ourselves when we come here.
Its great to play with the different sauces and you can cook the meat to the level you wish. This is a fun way to eat, I cant wait to take my kids here when they are old enough to cook without chucking it everywhere. The spicy cabbage is lovely, however very moreish, once you start munching on that there is no stopping you.

If you are looking for a meal with a difference in Perth, check out Tong 86 in Northbridge. This is Barbecue, Korean style.
I think this place really appeals to the men who like to barbecue at home. You order your meat and it comes raw, you then get to cook it on your own personal grill at your table. You then use various sauces and wrapt in lettuce.
This place is full of character. If you look up you will notice that the ceiling is covered in newspapers. Korean newspapers no less. The food is good and it is cheap. The staff don’t speak a huge amount of english, but they are lovely and the service is prompt.

For meat lovers like me this place is yummy and fun. It is Korean barbecue so you order your meat and cook it your table. You then wrap in lettuce and add lots of different sauces. It is delicious, and if you have never experienced Korean BBQ this is the place to do. Try their range of Korean beers and sit back and enjoy the company. The food is fresh and cheap. Feeling adventurous try the worm soup.

I have to admit that I am slightly biased when it comes to this restaurant because I love Korean food and I understand that there are many people that don’t. If you don’t know whether you do or not then I ask you to give it a try. The Korean saying that will come in most useful here is Hana-​Do (one more). It is a galbi restaurant which means you barbecue your own choice of meat at your table, the eat it wrapped in lettuce with a variety of condiments including kimchi (pickled spicy cabbage) and samjang (spicy soy bean paste).
Servings are cheap and very fast. You will not get kicked out of here when you have finished eating, quite the opposite. They have absorbed their own Korean culture here that lets you wit at your table until the early hours, downing shots of soju (rice wine), drinking cold beer and talking loudly.
