History

Established in 1989.

Redspot took off in 1989 with a fleet of just two courtesy cars; a Holden Ute and a Laser and a team of one, Dan Mekler, managing director of Redspot. Dan being the entrepreneur that he is, started to experiment with Sydney City hotel delivery, soon discovering a large gap in the availability of car rentals on the weekend.

With great persistence, and the forging of forever lasting business relationships, Dan grew Redspot from being a small side business to becoming a national network of operations.

In 1999, Redspot tendered for an on-​airport licence at Sydney Airport, and won. Redspot was able to grow its on-​airport presence around the country, and by 2004 opened another 4 on airport locations at Gold Coast, Cairns, Launceston and Perth. 3 years later, Redspot opened Brisbane, Hobart, Mackay, Canberra and Adelaide airports.

With its evolving business strategy, Redspot is becoming more relevant to the corporate market whilst keeping its promise to serving its traditional leisure base

After completing an automotive trade apprenticeship Dan studied small business management. His first venture was to turn around a run-​down petrol station. He transformed it into a thriving fuel outlet and mechanical repair business and not long after rented his first courtesy car there.

Over a period of fourteen years Dan’s entrepreneurial skills helped him transform his small business into a national tier one car rental company. Dan recognised the value of car rental at Australian Airports and made it his mission to build his rent a car business into an industry leader with airport and downtown locations across Australia. Dan is fiercely competitive by nature which explains how Redspot. Sixt rent a car has gained the enviable market position it commands today.
