Papa Wok is a little bit of Chinese Malay hawker food right in the middle of West Perth. A tiny little shop with a decent amount of cheap and cheerful tables and chairs squeezed in, fans blowing, an eccentric hostess and the sounds of slurping, sizzling and satisfaction coming from all corners. $ 10 for a full belly is all-bloody-right in anyone’s book, I’d suggest. My faves include the Roti Canai and anything noodles. Green Cat bus stop right outside. Yay.

Oh Auntie May… I give Papa Wok 4 stars because of you! Auntie May is the owner(I assume) of the tiny Singaporean/Malaysian hawker-style restaurant in West Perth and she amuses Sylvia N. and I greatly. We have regular text messages and emails to recall our encounters. LOL! I can’t remember the last time anyone has called me «Ah-Girl» but everytime I walk up to the counter to order, Auntie May calls me that. She probably calls every female customer that, but I like to tell myself she saves it just for me :0) And now for the food. Every dish is 10 bucks. The BBQ pork here is my fav! It’s sweet and tender and perfect with rice or noodles. Super tasty! I introduced a couple of my co-workies here and they love it too. According to one of them, he reckons the regular Fried Kway Teow is the best he’s had. I’ve had the Papa Spicy Fried Kway Teow and didn’t like the added laksa leaf flavor. Seemed weird to me. Will have to try the normal Fried Kway Teow to compare. That’s if I can steer myself away from ordering the BBQ pork.

Ouch. That’s pretty much the only word going through my head right now. I just finished a Papa Wok Spicy Kway Teow(Hot) and was it damn hot. I made the mistake of agreeing to hot as I find most noodle houses serve up mild when you ask for hot. But as I type this, the heat is subsiding and my thoughts are able to be processed. As a Kway Teow, it was excellent. Generous mixture of prawns, chicken and tofu with some excellent rice noodles. Very tasty. Although, next time, I might just go with a mild and save the hot for a personal challenge. Oh, and all dishes are $ 9.90, so it makes for an excellent cheap lunch.
