Croissants, pastries and coffee. A couple of weeks ago my sister and I walked the dogs through Hyde Park and then settled there and feasted on delicate, warm croissants. Everything about Le Papillion is cute. The tables, the quiches and sweets that they’ve made, the design of the whole place makes me feel comfortable and warm and safe. We ordered a croissant each and a sausage roll for the dogs(which was accompanied by a bowl of water for them) and I was blown away with how cheap it was. The food was lovely, the croissants were buttery and flaky and gorgeous(the use of Swiss cheese was a nice change from cheddar) and ever so light. Their baguettes are totally worth a mention too. Tuna mayo, ham and cheese, make your own. It’s great to have an easy, but well made lunch option.

Le Papillon revisited — used to pop in years ago with a friend of mine and pick up cakes and tarts for special occasions. Last week, on my recommendation, a work colleague and I decided to try the coffee and breakfast croissant. The coffee was lacking in flavour and body and unfortunately the croissant was dry and unappetising. I did however find the lime tart passable, though nothing to write home about. The décor is quaint with some nice little touches but the flaking paint drags down the tone of the place. What once was a reputable establishment now seems just sad and tired.

Used to be a wonderful French Café but is now run by a different owner and has lost its quality. Not a big range anymore and cakes stay in there for a few days. Small coffees are $ 4. It’s alright for a snack but nothing special.

Small French café’, full of passion, love and flavors. It offers expresso coffee and this is for me a must for a good café’. The place was almost full at lunch and this is a good sign for popularity, with business people, casual customer and retired couples. I loved the décor, the tables were simple and cozy. I had a ham, bacon and cheese croissant and a sausage roll, mix between Australian and French tradition. I enjoyed a good chat and the welcoming environment.

The coffee from Le Papillion is one to be raved about. It gives the pastries and french sticks a run for there money. The ultimate combo for me is a delicious coffee and a tasty crispy croissant. The croissants are buttery and have a nice crispy shell. They go down a treat with the coffee. For lunch they make amazing baguettes, full of some seriously good fillings. They also have a range of cakes, tarts and some more sweet goodness!

‘Le-pah-pee-yon’, it’s French for butterfly. Croissants and coffee are the buy and sell. The pastry is beautiful; wonderfully flaky, golden brown and perfectly sweet. The décor is quite traditional, Country France and verges on dated, but it’s very warm and homely and suffices as the setting for a quick pit-stop. Choose from classic croissants like Pan au Chocolat, Almond and plain, or make a meal out of it and choose one of their toasted, filled versions like ham, swiss cheese, tomato and avocado or roast chicken, cream cheese avocado and tomato. The coffee, brewed with 5 senses beans; is worthy of the pastries. Some locals pop in for a take-away coffee alone, that’s if the can resist the whiff of hot pastry.
