Seemingly never having heard of Google, as we left Hilltop I elucidated on my theory that this must be the only place in the world that serves Rusty Nails. I had never heard of the dish before and thus, this must be the explanation. Of course, that would be true if only I wasn’t such a doofus and did the due diligence to discover that this is indeed a well-known dish. For those like me and unawares, Rusty Nails are a crispy beef stir-fry dish, in this case cooked with a slight orange flavour. As you might imagine, they are delicious. I ate a whole plate on my own. While I have had a number of other dishes here, including sweet and sour pork and a few of the classic spring roll entrée items, just opt for the Rusty Nails. They’re worth the trip themselves.

Not the best Chinese restaurant in the area, but definitely not the worst either(the Chinese restaurant in Mortdale who recently gave me food poisoning definitely takes that title). The menu is vast and a little confused– some of the dishes aren’t even Chinese! But despite its identity crisis, the food is quite good. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the prices. Portion sizes are far too small, and therefore the price tags are generally unjustified. I’ve shared a banquet here before and while it was nice, there wasn’t enough food for everyone, and the price tag was ridiculous. The prawn toast entrée was good, but the spring rolls were limp and had barely any filling. Mains were good, but again too small, and our table left a little unsatisfied. Overall, not a bad restaurant if you have a small appetite and deep pockets.
