I find it much harder to give great reviews when it takes so long for food to arrive. Today was one of those times. Twenty minutes for coffee to arrive(per gripe — don’t deliver large coffees unless they have been explicitly asked for) and forty minutes for food at a time when they were not busy — not great. The food was quite good when it arrived, though the chips were overlooked and dry. The pock of the choices was a beef and mushroom pie from the specials board. Solid chunks of beef made for good eating, with a crispy pastry topping. Overall, OK, but slow.

Lovely meals and cakes. Reliable service. Not really cozy unless you are fortunate enough to sit near the fireplace.

This place is very nice. I just had lunch there & I wasn’t at all disappointed. Our waitress was a bit slow, but since I wasn’t in a hurry was not a problem for me. :) The place boast indoor/outdoor seating. The outdoor seating has plenty of shade — even on a very hot day like today. The menu was very varied & had several options for vegetarians :) & some options even specified could be made to be vegetarian which I thought was a very thoughtful. I had a soy flat white coffee & I’ll say it was straight down the line. It was the best but I would go back & have another :) The pricing was a bit pricey on some things — however, the taste was well worth it! Ah, & I couldn’t resist the lemon tart & I’m so glad I had it… YUMYUMYUM!!! A must if you are in the area :)

What disappointed me here was the lack of vegan food. I rang the day before and explained my food choices which didn’t match their venue and besides being extremely apologetic, they explained that I needed to advise my preferences at least one week beforehand!!! Now seriously guys, it’s not as though I have leprosy, a simple non egg pasta with a tomato based sauce would have done. Anyways we were booked in prior to a long Oxfam Trailwalker training walk of 48kms, so I needed to eat. I had two entrees veggie spring rolls and the bruschetta which were both magnificent and actually constituted a full meal for me. All they should have said on the phone was«we can do two entrees»!!! Service was good and it was a tad pricey but the colleagues enjoyed their spag bog and we had more than enough fuel to keep us trekking for 48 clicks.

Where do you go when it’s winter… looking for a warm and cosy café, preferably one with a fire place with real fire and logs! Look no further, you have arrived — not only is this café full of ambience, its busy and best of all– serves out great food from breakfast to lunch and of course… the devine Devonshire tea! The scones are fluffy and big… an absolute delight for a wintery Sunday. And the coffee… is superb too.
