Great up and coming little bar and restaurant. Some great dishes that have a lot of detail. The drinks are amazing, everyone seems to take instagram pics of their drinks. Men — order an 1850’s you will not be disappointed. Worth the visit.

We haven’t been here for maybe four years and it’s as good as we remember. Fantastic, tasty bursts of flavour with a warm, cozy atmosphere. This is matched with a great drinks and cocktails list and outstanding service. Would recommend this to anyone.

Considering the name I was really ready to be wowed by the selection of rums only to be seriously disappointed. The tartlet we ordered came out on a shortbread style base totally lacking the crisp flaky pastry base. Whilst it was a Friday night it really was a challenge to get the wait-staff’s attention. The caramelised bacon popcorn was one of the blandest foods I have tasted in a long while. Sorry«Rum» Diaries you need to lift your game up…

Unimpressive rums given the namesake. Inattentive service. Menu reads well but poor follow through. Popcorn is one of my fave things, salted caramel with bacon sounds tdf but lacked salt and was more Bacos than actual bacon. Weak cocktails. Nice cheese plate.

The Rum Diaries looks like a old bohemian house that is mixed with smooth style, great food and some good cocktails. I’m not much of a drinker but I am a lover of food and when it comes to Tappas that are inventive and taste even better than they look I’m all in. A bit pricey but only somewhere you’d visit if you had a bit extra cash to thow around on food and drink in the Bondi area before or after a walk down to the beach itself. Great Service and booking is something that I would recommend highly because if its a larger group of 3 – 6 people they will be able to offer you more accomodating seating in the restaurant.

While vodka-based cocktails have long been the go-to drink and Sydney wine bars continue to abound, it’s all manner of rums that inspire this tavern-like tapas bar. Mod oz tapas arrive to the table on wooden boards following enthusiastic advice from our knowledgeable waiter. On the drinks from, I went retro with the piña colada(the Rum Diaries version, a lot fruitier and fresher than your typical over-creamy, frozen blend) but their all-rum-based beverages span a number of centuries and drinking trends. As the restaurant name suggests, the lengthy cocktail list reads like a journal of sorts. Drinks are arranged in order of their original year of conception — dating at far back as the 1500’s era of Caribbean glory with the Mount Gay rum, lemon juice and muscovado sugar of the Bumbo — and accompanied by poetic, historical blurbs. The low-lit dining room replete with dripping candles, chandeliers and mismatched vintage furniture continues the glam-shipwrecked theme. Arrr.
