Great new revamp. Far nicer than its predecessor. I had the corn fritter and it was alright. What turns me off is the sourpuss staff(and I assume the one is the owner). I can’t stand miserable people behind the counter.

We stopped by this fancy little spot on a Saturday night when we were looking for a glass of wine & some dessert to finish a night off! Service was a little slow, we waited quite some time just to get the menu. The venue itself is gorgeous with a wall of wine to die for! Fantastic wine menu but definitely on the high price end. Coffee is actually really good — one of the best mochas I’ve had in a while. Onto the most important part. dessert! Short list of very fancy sounding dessert options. We opted for the beetroot brownie with mango sorbet and beetroot meringue, winner winner! This dish was beautiful with all components tying in together to bring a gorgeous winter warming dessert. Unfortunately the mango sago was a bit of a miss but lucky the beetroot brownie was good enough to probably bring us back to this spot again!

Dined at No. 4 Blake Street with my partner last night in celebration of my birthday. As it was a Saturday night, we had the degustation, which I found to be a bit hit and miss. The service was okay, but not fantastic. Empty wine glasses(we had the classic pairing) were not cleared away quickly, and our next wines were served before we’d had a chance to finish our current ones. Although the pacing on most dishes being served was good, for some reason there was a huge delay before our dessert came out. When it came time to pay the bill and leave, it was nye on impossible to get someone’s attention to serve us. This might seem like nitpicking, but when you are paying for a fine dining experience you expect the service to be on point. Now, some thoughts on a few of the dishes. We started off with a pork crackling amuse bouche, followed by warm bread and an interesting deconstructed beef spread. Marron with coconut water. This dish was okay, but didn’t really blow me away. House made black pudding with pine nuts. YES. Great flavours, wonderfully earthy and nutty. Sous vide cod with lentils. The sommelier called this one of their signature dishes. I call it disappointing. The cod was dry and had a quite strong fishy taste, it really wasn’t very nice at all and I would not want to eat this dish again. Beef with parsnip. The beef was nicely cooked, but very lacking in seasoning. Dessert consisted of a wonderful chocolate and pistachio number. Definitely a highlight. So all in all a very hit and miss experience. I would not recommend choosing to come here when you have far better options such as Amuse in East Perth, where the food and service are head and shoulders above No 4. Blake Street.

Nice feel and look. Chilled out on a Sunday morning. Coffee was average and took 25 minutes to come out on a not so busy morning. Juice was all pulp. Ordered the farmhouse with extra bacon($ 6 for two eyes!) best part of it was the toast and beans. Mushrooms were boiled and cold as were the poached eggs. Staff member that served us had no idea about her menu or coffee. Happy to give it another try… But left feeling disappointed

I heard about this place through Instagram when everyone have been posting photos of their pot plant chocolate desserts and bragging how good this place is. Staff was very friendly and kind enough to explain to us every detail of their dessert and the environment is very chilled considering its on a busy street. It is only a tiny restaurant so sitting can be a bit of a pain on a busy Saturday/Sunday morning, we opted for the late arvo meal which worked out well. 2 thumbs up for this gig. =)

Yummy High Tea. A lovely departure from the norm. The savoury food was a real treat, distinct flavours. A nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

I had lunch at No 4 Blake St on Father’s Day and we were lucky enough to score a table for 6 by joining a few tables together, but otherwise it was a full house. I just love the menu here — lots of options that aren’t stock standard, encouraging me to try new dishes. Lucky for me my cousin was as conflicted as I with choosing between the same two dishes so we shared and were able to try both the Duck and potato hash(with poached egg, pickled beetroot, endive, candied walnuts, saffron and orange emulsion) and the Semolina dusted Calamari(with avocado salsa, charred sweet corn, chilli jam, fava crisps). I think my favourite between the two would be the calamari — anything paired with avocado usually reigns triumphant for me, but I was happy with both dishes. Super keen to come back for the tasting menu. By the presentation of the dishes I had at lunch I can tell they put a lot of effort into their food, and for incredibly reasonable prices at that. I also love that there is a parking lot next door, saves time compared to going to places on main streets and having to drive around looking for a parking bay.

My friend booked this place for us for high tea as she was recommended to try it through another friend. High tea starts at 2pm and needs to be booked and paid a deposit beforehand. It is not your usual high tea of sandwiches and cupcakes but is is the ultimate high tea experience. Filled with tantalising savoury selections and delectable sweets, the No4 team presents a high tea like no other in Perth. The service was impeccable very attentive and polite and they explained the dishes that we would get. No High Tea is ever the same as the menu changes every week as is different each time. We had the Classic High Tea(served with Earl Grey tea or English breakfast tea) $ 42 Our High tea menu was: Tea — Earl Grey Savouries — Sweet potato & orange soup Miso tartlet, soy pearls, cured egg Quail pave, chestnut mustard crisp Rabbit braise, pumpkin gnocchi Sugar cured beef, black rice crisp Sugar cured beef, black rice crisp Horseradish mousse, cured venison Sweet Treats — Carrot cake, cream cheese No4 scones Strawberry & Geraldton wax mousse Chocolate & zucchini cakes Assorted truffles Chocolate frangipani Everything was so delicious, tasty and delectable and it felt like a lovely day out. The atmosphere is unique and intimate and very elegant. Must return to this place again for Breakfast, Lunch and/or Dinner as the experience is amazing!

Gorgeous! Well hidden– a treasure if anything! Came here for breakfast and it wasn’t really located near all the hustle and bustle of North Perth, but rather quite on its own but still recognisable as an eatery from a distance. I should have planned to come a little earlier because it was packed! We waited approx 20mins for a table for 3. They gave us a lovely table in the upstairs section right by the window. Lighting was so perfect for a rainy day(which it was absolutely bucketing!) and the wall of wines on display with low hanging lights was just beautiful to look at. The breakfast options were plenty and covered a little bit of everything. I had the mushrooms and my friends had the big breakfast. All I could hear from their mouths were«Oh my bacon!» because it wasn’t the flimsy bacon rashers you would get at the shops, but true thick cut bacon with all the fatty goodness. My meal was delicious-ness on a plate! Different array of mushrooms with beautiful textures and flavours that went well with the sikiness of my poached egg. And hot dang. that coffee is brilliant! I had to order 2! :) Definitely give this one a try guys, I can’t wait to come back for lunch and then dinner– maybe even both in one day! Haha!

I’m not sure I get the hype of this place. I didn’t find the breakfast that exciting or worth the $ value. The bacon that was served was really not that nice and overall I felt the dish lacked seasoning. We also have had the 10 course Degustation for dinner w a group of friends and it was ‘meh’ to me. Others loved it but I found it lacked a little wow factor especially for the $. I would pass on going here again but by all means — try it once for yourself, you may just love it!

I visited No 4 Blake Street on Sunday. I have been wanting to go for AGES and had pretty high expectations having read some positive reviews from some of my favourite and most trusted food bloggers. I’m so reluctant to say this because the service was great… but I was disappointed. Drink I ordered a beetroot, carrot, apple and ginger juice. It was delicious and amazing. Food I asked the waitress about gluten free options and after a bit of back and forth, she said it would probably be best to just get the Vego Farmhouse minus all the things I couldn’t eat(the fried green tomato and potato cake) but to add bacon and with gluten free toast. My friend ordered the same dish but without bacon and with all the gluten bits. I think the menu said it had baked beans, mushrooms, eggs, toast, spinach, potato cake and avocado salsa for $ 21.(This might not be correct — I’ve tried to find a current version of the menu online but unfortunately the menu has changed and the one on their website is out of date). When our meals came out, my bacon was on my friend’s plate and my plate had a fried tomato and potato cake on it(hers did too). We only had time to mention the bacon situation to the waiter who apologised and promptly took the food back to the kitchen to fix. On his return, I asked about the tomato and potato cake being gluten free and was told it was not and away my meal went for a second time. It was handled really well but it was a worry that a) there could be bacon juice on my friend’s vegetarian meal and b) there were gluten bits still on my plate(cross-contamination is inevitable so I wasn’t overly fussed by this). Neither plate had spinach, so perhaps I imagined this on the menu. By this stage I just wanted to eat so didn’t mention it. The avocado salsa was delicious. The poached eggs were the best poached eggs I’ve ever had. The baked beans were ok — they lacked a bit of flavour for my liking. The mushrooms were fine. The replacement of fresh tomato when the fried tomato was removed was appreciated. The bacon was… oh the bacon, what a let down! I love bacon. What I didn’t expect was a bacon steak. I tried it thinking I might enjoy it but I didn’t. It was too meaty and chewy. I was really disappointed with this. I think the menu should state that it’s a thick slab of bacon. I don’t think many people would expect a bacon steak when they order bacon. Service Really fantastic — friendly and efficient. Overall For $ 32 ish($ 21 Vego Farmhouse + $ 4 bacon + $ 7ish juice), I was disappointed. While the service was great and the venue is lovely, it was too expensive for what was presented and the bacon surprise was bad. Would I go back? Yes, for the eggs and service but it won’t be put on the ‘favourites list’ just yet.

High tea was a departure from the classic scones and cucumber sandwiches. Options start from $ 44 onwards, for 2 pots of earl grey per person and a serving of savory and sweet treats. There are other drink options but there is a charge fee*. Savory servings from smoked duck salad with a paw paw salad, boudin blanc, fish taco and sweet servings with chocolate, a lemond curt tart etc. No boring old scones and brownies selection. The dishes were delicately presented and looked really pretty. Positives: 1. Most of the dishes were fairly spot on in terms of taste and presentation. 2. Service was attentive but not obtrusive. Negatives: 1. The dishes didn’t quite synchronize, mexican(taco) thai(paw paw salad) + french(boudin blanc)? Generally lacked cohesiveness. 2. Having to pay for change of tea. While my mom and I drink earl grey generally anyways, I would rather have the options rather than having to pay for a change. Overall I would recommend coming to No 4 Blake Street for high tea.

So I’ve been here a number of times for breakfast and for lunch. I should really try dinner one of these days. Breakfast is served immediately for the hungry like me :) The waiter(Michael) acknowledges you as you walk through the door. apart of the friendly service. Ps– you accumulate points for free coffee with a special card they give you. Prices are reasonable, food is above average and refreshing. Love the sweets especially the chocolate ginger pot! I could go on until the cows come home but I’ll let you try this hidden gem yourself. Amazing service is an added bonus!

There was a buzz about the place with the waiters ensuring everyone was enjoying their meals, to the chatter of tables and the sleek interiors that adds charm and sophistication to the place(something so nice and grown-up, a nice and lovely change from that«artsy, hipster» overdone recycled look(that every Charles, Dick and Harry have been doing for ages!). We had such a hard time deciding what to eat for lunch — the menu sounded wonderful and appetizing. I couldn’t choose between a chicken sandwich, lamb burger,(the burger weren’t really buns but amazing quality bread!), lamb tagine, the duck or the waffle with fresh blue berries, marsapone, maple syrup and bacon! While the boy couldn’t decide between the lamb burger, bangers and beans or the waffle. In the end, I settled for the duck confit. Slow cooked duck with potato cake, house slaw and beetroot dressing. The potato cake was this crunchy outer exterior with this delicious soft mashy goodness. The duck was nicely cooked, although, perhaps a little too oily in some bits. But then it is a confit. The slaw, I thought, just didn’t go with the whole thing. And I’m so not a coleslaw fan. The dish, I thought was cheapened by the slaw. But then biased here. Bf ended up having the lamb burger. It wasn’t in your usual burger bun, but rather a very nice slices of bread(which I thought is a lot better, because then it’s not too heavy). The pattie was a lamb and oats pattie and you can see the oats through the pattie and it gave it this nice crunchy dimension to it. It had goats curd, eggplant and hummus in the burger, all of which complimented each other nicely. The goats curd wasn’t that strong or overpowering either. It came with a side of chips in a really cute little deep frying basket and homemade tomato sauce. From our previous experience, No.4 Blake street made amazing desserts. The entrance of the restaurant had this lovely display of desserts and the lunch«sweet» things enticed us to ordering desserts to share. Homemade churros was in order with dark chocolate and crème analgise dipping sauces. The churros were plenty — about 6 – 7 churros and were slightly crispy on the outside and doughy goodness on the inside. It was warm too. So when soaked in the dark chocolate… *drool* Nothing beats quality homemade churros. Simple dessert, and yet so effective in creating smiles. If you also get a chance, pop out to the back of No.4 and they have a lovely and very cute micro-herb garden happening. Just the sweetest of things. So you know the ingredients they use in their kitchen is the freshest it can be! I enjoy No.4. Their service and food is just impeccable(not just to me, but to many of their restaurant visitors from observations). Well informed staff, welcoming, professional and with just a touch of class.

I recently read a mouth-watering review on Foodie Cravings on a new restaurant opened up in North Perth called No 4 Blake Street. Located on a quiet road off Fitzgerald Street this recently opened venue is open for breakfast and lunch all week and dinner from Tuesday through to Saturday. They have a decent range of gluten free options including gluten free bread and are happy to alter dishes to suit food allergies. They have even recently started offering evening degustation. I had mushrooms on toast: Medallions of juicy sautéed mushrooms were piled generously high with baby spinach, feta and Pedro vinegar on no less than three slices of fresh toasted grainy gluten free bread Gotta get back for their dego!

D.I.Y Degustation The first surprise at this restaurant was our miscalculation that this would be an alacarte type menu. This confusion was quickly cleared up by the friendly staff who informed us that this is in fact a degustation destination that has a twist that allows you to choose your own degustation combinations. There are also the usual options to pair wines or choose your own drinks if any at all. One of the high points drinks wise was the cocktails. Susan had the Espresso Martini which was quiet delicious. I opted for a «Hell Ride» cocktail that was a VERY interesting fusion of flavours. I will say no more on this drink and let you find out for yourself. For the first round of food(Amuse Bouche) we opted for the Butter Poached Yabbies, blood orange gel, boudin noir, and purple potato crisps and the Rabbit Parfait, belle presse, leg and pistachio terrine, gingerbread tuile and pomegranate. There was a few surprise courses in between including a rabbit a pasta dish and crumbled beef tendons that were quite intriguing. The second and final round(Al Dente) was seared duck breast, pencil leeks, poached plum and celery leaves and the Pan Fried Coral Trout, smoked sardine pâté, samphires, mussels and chenin emulsion. The Mussel shells were actually edible as they were made of something else entirely and this was a pleasant surprise. Overall the experience was quite enjoyable and the hidden surprise with the cocktails was also very interesting. We were actually both too full at this point to try anything from the Palate Cleanser course so I can’t comment on this. For all these courses, 2 glasses of wines and 2 quality cocktails the bill totaled around $ 220, pretty reasonable considering the setting and service. Something different for those of you that haven’t been here before. Some courses surprised, some raised talking points, and overall we both left happy customers.

This review is for a quiet romantic dinner, first we were greater warmly and seated spaced out for as long as possible from other patrons which is always nice for a date night. The the waiters took their time to explain the menu and wine list, have us plenty of time to consider it; not so much we were left waiting and even suggested some great wine pairings — No. 4 Blake St were serving their wines by the glass in rather cute measuring beakers which gave you a very genius portion. As I have come to expect from Tom(owner and chief) the food was cooked and seasoned beautifully it was all absolutely fabulous — unfortunately my favourite was one of the between course specials a ravioli it was to die for but I cannot order it from the menu!!! The course were also well portioned was despite ordering entrée, main and dessert and getting amuse bouchée, hors d’œuvre, and entremets but we managed to fit it by sharing the dessert. All in all No. 4 was a very nice experience and we most certainly will be going back.

No. 4 has an amazing feel about it. Romantic is the first adjective that comes to mind. I was here for breakfast, but I imagine the ambience and romanticism is heightened ten-fold in the evening. The service was prompt and friendly. They greated us as the door, sat us down and quickly provided water and menus. I really did enjoy most everything about this place. There is just one teeny tiny thing… The food is not all that good. My friends ordered the breakfast bruchetta and I had the fried green tomatoes. I should have known better to chance fried green tomatoes. On paper the tomatoes sounded delish paired with crusty bread, bacon and a poached egg with hollandaise sauce. On plate, I only got two tomatoes and two slabs of bacon that were mostly fat and gristle. Very disheartening. Luckily my friends seemed to enjoy their meal much more.

This restaurant has only recently opened, but you certainly couldn’t tell. The service was exceptional from being greeted at the door to leaving at the end of the night. The restaurant has a theatre feel with red velvet curtains. During the day, it is a café, but at night it is transformed into a romantic dining experience. After taking our order, we were given bread(choice of sourdough or olive bread) and 3 types of flavoured butter. Then an amuse came out. This was delicious — kingfish. My entrée was fresh oysters. They were full of flavour. Then another amuse came out. Very flavoursome light fluffy gnocchi. Main was beef with smoked potato foam. The flavours of the beef, onion and potato worked well together. A pallet cleanser was served which was light and refreshing followed by my dessert. passion fruit chocolate ball. This was a delicious end to the night. The wait staff were always friendly and helpful and explained every course in detail. The water was regularly topped up and the meal service was well paced. Kudos to the chef & staff.

This new edition to North Perth is brought to you by the same owners as Tom’s Kitchen. It’s a large, gorgeous café/restaurant. Though it’s just off Walcott Street it has a lovely peaceful feel to it. There’s 2 sections inside and quite a lot of outdoor seating on the front patio. The fit it out is awesome. They’ve done a top job of making it a perfect spot for just a coffee or a casual breakfast, but it’s also glam enough for more fancy occasions. I love the blue lamps and I must give the bathroom a special shout — a brand new over-sized sink, accompanied by a native flower arrangement and gorgeous hand wash, I almost forgot for a minute I was in a café and in a day spa instead. They have one menu for breakfast, brunch and lunch which runs till 4pm. A great idea for the indecisive, and of course a lot of the hospitality staff living in the area who need to sleep in. Classics like bircher museli, toast and bacon and egg rolls grace the menu along with more unique items like Cuttlefish salad and smoked brisket.
