Today, Fandango reminded me not to judge a book by its cover. This little place is Auction Rooms neighbour and in my opinion it’s worth walking past Auction Rooms and giving this place a try. From the street-front it looks tiny but there is a lovely courtyard out the back where I sat today and had a great time with my beautiful partner. I recommend sitting in the courtyard if you can. Let’s talk about the meal itself. Firstly, I ordered my usual skinny cappucino which did not disappoint at all. I’m not sure which coffee they use but it went down very well, so top marks on the coffee Fandango. Now as for the food, I had the French Toast. I never order French Toast and not sure why I did today but I am glad that I did because it rocked! The French toast came with bacon, apple slices cooked in cinnamon or something amazing, maple butter and maple syrup. My mouth is salivating at the thought of it. See you soon Fandango!

Nowhere near as spacious as neighbouring«Auction Rooms», but don’t be fooled by this teeny tiny café, because it’s pretty good! With a hippy vibe inside, and a quaint little courtyard outback, it delivers tasty brunch items and damn good coffee on the cheap! White tiles, retro curtains, mismatch crockery and a red coffee bar help make the cosy space interesting. My choice of «Beetroot Eggs» were earthy and pretty to look at, while a side of mushrooms topped off a very yummy breakfast. Grab the window seat if you can, or opt for a table outside if you’re claustrophobic, because it can feel a little bit squished inside if you need your space.

Oh Fandango. Thank you for being one of my fave places in North Melbourne. Your coffee, scrambled pesto eggs on sourdough bread and soy chai lattes rock. I recommend you place yourself in the courtyard out back — much cosier than the front section. My only suggestion? Not so much butter on bread with the scrambled eggs. Pesto is oily enough and does the trick. Otherwise, stay the hipster dream and keep the beards coming thick and fast.

Excellent breakfast — large servings of really well-put together food. I strongly recommend both the pesto scrambled eggs and the poached eggs with beetroot relish and fetta. The home-made relishes and chutneys are also well worth a try, but vary seasonally. Have yet to try the lunch there(but will be going back to do so, given the strength of their breakfast offerings). Really lovely vibe and friendly staff. It’s probably not a great choice for large groups(the biggest table I saw at Fandango was a six-seater), and it’s a very small café(five-six tables in the front). Earlier reviewers mentioned they’re closed on Sundays and Mondays — current opening hours are Mon-Sat from 7.30am, and Sundays from 9.

I came here for lunch the other day. Chill vibe — I’d definitely come by again when I’m next in North Melbourne. I had the falafel wrap which wasn’t bad, just not great and probably a little expensive for what it was.

Super cute café that kind of feels just like you’re sitting in someone’s kitchen or dining room.

I have to admit that the first time I came here was kinda by accident. We were lining up for the Auction Rooms next door(my gosh the fact that we had to line up for longer than 15mins bothered me) when there was a spot at Fandangos. We sat out the back in the very cute, very small courtyard. This place is small so not good for groups. I am usualy a savoury breakfast sort of person however I was just a bit over the egg thing and suprised myself when I ordered the pancakes. They were mouthwatering amazing, they came with some sort of delicious rhubarb scrumptiousness(dont even think that is a word, that is how good they are). My companion ordered the an egg breakfast as thought it was great too. I had a smile on my face all day thinking about the pancakes, who would have thought.

North Melbourners have a special kind of affection for Fandango. Maybe it’s because of its homely layout, that makes you feel like you’re just hanging out at a friend’s house. Or the fact that the staff treat you like you’re a real guest, and remember your standard order. Whatever it is, Fandango has become one of the areas worst kept secrets, which is why you now often have to wait up to half an hour to get a table on a Saturday morning. It doesn’t matter though… it’s worth it. In terms of the menu, everything is good(mostly quite simple, and with good vegetarian options). The French toast with whipped butter, poached apple, bacon and maple syrup is insanely good. But if that sounds a little too intense, the toasted pides are all a good way to go. Oh… and get a side of the homemade beetroot relish to put on everything!

Right next to the mammoth that is Auction Rooms sits one of North Melbourne’s locally loved little cafes, Fandango. This place was here before Northy became the café hotspot it is now, making coffee to perfection and serving interesting and humongous breakfasts to those who can find a table to sit out inside its tiny shopfront. The staff are the friendliest you’ll find and make you feel instantly at home — it almost feels like you’re inside THEIR home. For eggs with a difference it’s hard to go past the poached eggs topped with a giant dollop of beetroot relish and fetta. Beetroot for breakfast! How Austrayan. If avocado on toast is your thing than you won’t get it bigger than here, either. You definitely get your money’s worth. The back courtyard — which you arrive at by walking straight through the kitchen, so don’t be shy — is a peaceful place to spend the morning in the sunshine. Note: Fandango is not open Sunday or Monday. I repeat, NOTOPENSUNDAYS.
