I came here for breakfast over the weekend and was pretty pleased with the experience. The location is a bit odd as it’s deeply wedged inside a residential area in North Freo. It’s the restaurant at the bottom of a new high rise apartment building so even though it was decorated well inside, it was in a bit of a sterile environment. Unfortunately you don’t actually get a view of the river as the restaurant is turned in to face the houses. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth but I felt compelled to order the Peanut Butter Brownie Milkshake after seeing how sinfully delicious it looked on a fellow diner’s table. I’m so glad I did! It was the perfect level of sweetness for me as the peanut butter was a bit salty and savoury and the milkshake was a little thin so it was more milky than creamy. The brownie was so moist it fell apart when you broke into it, which made for a bit of a mess but it was worth it. I only wish I had it at the end of my meal for dessert rather than before, but that’s a learning for next time! I tried the baked eggs, which was actually a shakshouka rather than huevos rancheros like the menu description — huevos rancheros are fried eggs on top of tortillas people! Nonetheless, it was really delicious with thick slices of chorizo, stewed capsicum, and crumbled feta throughout the dish. Someone else I was dining with tried the Kaya Waffle which he enjoyed. I had no idea what kaya was(still kinda don’t…) but I think it’s a type of fruit curd, and the waffle also featured a splattering of popping candy.

Rabbit in the moon opens early on Sundays at 7am. Ideal if you are on your way to rottnest island and catching the early ferry there. Located within an apartment building, the café looks like an office space turned into a café. It has bright vibrant chairs and tables –pinks, yellows and bright blues and lots of rabbit figurines. Order and pay at the counter service and plenty indoor seating with some outdoor seating. My friend ordered the kaya waffles which is a small waffle with dollops of kaya on the edges of the plate as decoration, comes with a small mug if maple syrup and pieces of fresh fruit. My friend rated it a seven out of ten saying the name kaya waffles is deceiving. I had the scrambled chilli eggs with six slices of chorizo on ciabatta bread. Pretty average and over priced and small serving for 16.5 dollars. Oh and a dirty chai costs 5.50 and comes in a luke warm pot where you have to add the espresso shot yourself. How is it a dirty chai if I have to make it myself? Pretty average and disappointing. Lots of residential free parking nearby.

Upon arriving at Rabbit In The Moon, I immediately fell in love with their cute décor and the feeling of open space created by the glass panels. The café sits close to the Swan River, which means you have a good view on a sunny day if you pick the right place to sit. Their breakfast menu is served up to 2:30pm, so it’s a great café choice if you enjoy sleeping in. This Friday morning I dined with Dan and his mum, to start off we ordered a few drinks an Iced Americano($ 5.50), some Cappuccinos($ 4) and a Mixed Berries, Pear and Apple Juice Blend($ 6). For breakfast, I had my eye on the Kaya Waffle($ 18), which they recently added onto the Spring Menu. The waffle is American style, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle just how I enjoy it. Served with sweet maple syrup, kaya purée(a Malaysian pandan coconut jam), mascarpone, popping candy and fresh seasonal fruits. Such a pretty dish! Dan being a big eater went for the Rabbit’s Full Breakfast($ 22), this included some pork chipolatas, poached eggs, garlic tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, bacon and two slices of organic sourdough toast. His mum decided on the Baked Eggs($ 17.50), cooked Huevos rancheros style and served with two slices of organic sourdough. The eggs were baked with a mixture of chorizo, fetta cheese and mildly spicy capsicum tomato sauce, which she really enjoyed because of the spiciness. Location wise, the café sits in a more residential area with some easy to find free parking on that Friday morning. All the drinks came out around the same time, which were followed by the food and the service was very friendly. Would love to come back here to try the lunch menu, they have a delicious sounding Bulgogi Burger between 12pm to 2:30pm!

Nice food, coffee could do with an improvement. Baked eggs never disappoint from this place :) Beautiful spot in North Fremantle between the bridges, river views. If the coffee making and bean choice could improve, this has a potential to become MUCH more desirable for a brekky/brunch location.

Right between the bridges in North Fremantle you can find this cute little café. Get there early for a table in the shade overlooking the river. Place your orders at the counter. Great coffee, tasty food and really cute interior. The banana, honey, soy milk smoothie is a big hit for everyone! Brownies, cakes, macarons have all been great. Yummy croissant for my brunch today. After eating or grab a takeaway coffee head down to the river for a walk and there is some play equipment just a short walk up river. They have café parking spots just around the corner in the building garage.
