Cute little café located on one of the busiest streets in Newtown. Only popped in for an after lunch caffeine hit! Staff are friendly and have a sense of humor too! lol Coffee was pretty good! We sat outside on the stools to people water. No we’re not creepy, we just like observing: D

This is quite a nice place for brekkie and a coffee in Sydney. The coffees are all incredibly well-made and flavourful. Baked goods are also incredibly delicious. On one visit, I enjoyed the Mayan bowl, which was really honestly enough food to eat for two people… felt bad not finishing it. The vibe is good, you know the standard hipster urban chic sort of thing with exposed brick and what not. Nice outdoor veranda for seating as well. The only downside was that everything was just a little bit slow during the morning rush. Friendly staff though.

I ordered a cappuccino and it took them 15 mins to make it. I agree that it’s quite busy on Saturday but many waitresses still have free time to chat with others. I had to remind them 3 times. Order is written on takeaway paper bag, not even a proper ordering note. Why don’t they make it more professional to save their time and customer time? Their burgers seem to be delicious. May come back to try their burgers.

Beautiful sunny cottage just off king st. The service was attentive and we had a great table just by the big window. Coffee was a big tick. Mushroom breakfast with poached eggs an fetta was brilliant. The mushrooms were the best ive had in a while. My only gripe was the cost. But hey … maybe im a tight ass because it was very good

Small menu but the options are good and my Tijuana eggs just hit the spot. The pulled pork was beautiful and the avo did a great job cooling down the spices. I love it as something a little different from usual and would definitely recommend the place on that basis but a bog standard big breakfast wouldn’t hurt the menu. The coffee was OK. In other places I might have said good, but I didn’t love the bitter aftertaste and feeling of residue on my latte and, to be fair, it’s hard to rate coffee highly when you’re one door down from Campos. :)

Luxe is my favourite café in Sydney and I’ve eaten there a million times. The coffee is outstanding and the food and baked goods are simply off the chart. Nice, open plan dining room where you can chill and read or get in and out. It is not a ‘cheap eats’ place but high quality food that’s served with attention to detail. Because it’s good, it gets busy but I’ve always gotten a seat there. The staff are rad too. If you’ve not been, you must try it. Pulled pork and poached eggs are a fav of mine.

Great food, tasty treats and an amazing coffee served by amicable baristas. A definite drop-in if in Newtown!

Superb. Lovely fresh sandwiches freshly baked by the same company off site(apparently the three ovens they used to have on site weren’t enough to keep up with demand!). Tasty treats galore and although I had my coffee at Campos next door(insanely good) it looked excellent here as well. It was pleasantly busy when I was here at lunch on Monday but there were nice long tables to spread myself over. But the thing which blew me away was how friendly the staff were — chatty, informed and efficient. Why can’t all cafes be like this?

We went there Sunday morning. That day’s menu was fairly narrow for vegetarians. I had a mineral water and an almond tart. The almond tarts are dreadful — dry and boring. Definitely skip them. My parents and sister had a coffee and said it was good coffee. My father had a ham and cheese croissant that he enjoyed, said it wasn’t too greasy. My sister was happy with her toast. My mother had a lemon tart and the lemon curb was delicious. The waitress was kind of pushy about moving us to a different table because of crowds(apparently the four of us were better off sitting at the communal tables instead of the four-person table?) I’d give it another go, but stay away from the almond tarts.

Yum yum! Eggs benny can go either way, and on this day it was great! Creamy, eggy, spinach-y goodness on a muffin… Ugghhh. Staff were nice, but not particularly effective. And the coffee wasn’t fantastic.

Luxe Bakery is a cute bakery/café hidden just off the main drag of King Street. The food is pretty great(house cured salmon an poached egg $ 16 is to die for) but the coffee(at least on this particular day) is seriously average. Staff are friendly despite the chaos of take-away counter orders and table service. Newtown is a little lacking in great breakfast spots so this is a good one keep in mind! In the negatives the place is LOUD. It’s pretty challenging to hold a conversation across their wide communal tables. Also the service is pretty slow, friendly like I said, but slow.

Been a few times and each is as good as the last– Bran muffin is amazing with ricotta and blueberries — no added sugar makes me feel less guilty. Coffee was tops too and I am super picky– looking forward to trying a savoury brekkie too!

This café is my local, and boy am I spoilt. Great coffee, friendly staff who remember your usual order, good food, fresh bread and sweet treats. For breakfast we usually opt for eggs — offered scrambled or poached on Luxe house-baked bread with an array of sides available as add-ons; no bacon on the menu, but the fried ham is a more than adequate substitute and guilty pleasure. The poached eggs can sometimes be a little overdone, particularly during busy periods, but never unforgivably so. If you’re after something lighter, the muesli is also a winner, topped with a good amount of sheep’s milk yoghurt and plenty of fresh fruit — usually some variation on banana, blueberries, strawberries, and not a melon in sight(my pet hate). The muesli is a little on the sugary side so it’s a little bit more dessert-like than health option, but I keep going back for more. The frequently changing menu of lunchtime offerings usually includes some variation on a cheese melt, a veggie pasta, poached eggs done up with truffle oil & smoked trout, and more, but my favourites are the hearty salads. Depending on the season you can expect roasted baby root vegetables(with arugula and fried bread, from memory), or, if you’re lucky, they’ll have oxheart tomato on the menu(in a salad with smoked mozzarella, fresh herbs and caramelised onion. Hold me.) The sandwiches from display cabinet are good to take away, or to have there served with a handful of house marinated olives — which if I’m honest is probably my main motivation for ordering a sanga here. The beef with horseradish and pickles on rye is the clear winner; have it fresh, not toasted. The only downside is that on weekends it can be hard to get a table around breakfast/brunch time, but you can usually snag a spot on the corner of one of the communal tables at a stretch even during the busiest times if you’re willing to bump elbows with the odd stranger. Otherwise hold off til 1-ish for lunch(or even a late breakfast — served til 3pm these days, I think) and you’ll be rewarded with a bit more room to breathe. On weekdays, the stroller brigade can make mid-mornings a bit trying as well, but they usually clear out by 11; beware also the lunchtime rush of doctors and med students from RPAH down the road all clamouring for a quick sandwich at around 1pm.

Sometimes you don’t need tricky breakfasts, but a ‘normal’ breakfast. You know: toast etc. Well, when you get that hankering for something normal, but you’d like it done well, I’d highly recommend a visit to Luxe where you will be able to tuck in to their delicious baked goodies, all produced at the offsite bakery. These guys know good carbs, and won’t charge you an arm and a leg for them either. At $ 4 for some toasted sourdough or fruit bread, you can afford to get that side of ricotta or avo to go with it… Oh, and maybe a gigantic bowl of their super fresh fruit salad with sheep milk yoghurt on top. Perhaps a muffin stuffed full of berries? And a baby carrot cake… and a toasted bacon and egg ciabatta… and a danish… a chocolate brownie… and… and… heck, it’s all good. Simple and quick and served by very earnest staff, these tasty treats all hit the spot.

If I’m in the area, I have to go to Luxe. Sure Campos is next door, but now Campos coffee is everywhere in Sydney so why is there still a queue out the door? Anyway, Luxe is for me. Great coffee, great food and great music(still the only place in Australia I’ve heard Dengue Fever playing, and the barista knew who they were when I commented). I like that they take classic bakery goodies and do them so well. The croissants, bread and sandwhiches are great but it’s hard for me to go past something sweet. A few days ago it was a mid morning snack of coffee and banana bread. A small issue with the banana bread, but it was quickly and politely resolved. I’ll be back there on Friday, or sooner if I’m passing through.

If home is where the heart is, then I may as well move in to Luxe Bakery. There’s already a big heart on the wall, and now it’s well and truly claimed mine. Located in an erstwhile five bedroom house on Missenden Road, this is a bakery that well and truly wears its heart on its sleeve(and on its wall!). The breads are to die for. Whether you want a baguette — a *real* baguette — or my reason for living: sourdough, or even something sweeter, Luxe will deliver. Crunchy, light, fluffy and chewy in all the right places, Luxe will get you excited about carbs again.

Where do I begin? I love this café for every time of day — amazing sourdough toast and coffee for breakfast, a fabulous array of sandwiches, salads and quiches for lunch, cakes and cookies for tea. It is actually much bigger than it seems from the outside, where only a few tables can be seen, perched on the decking overlooking the street. But on the inside there’s enough room for about 20 people — although invariably full. The counter is crammed with sandwiches filled with things such as herby chicken, provolone cheese, lettuce and tangy orange sauce($ 10) or Schultz smoked wagyu beef, pickles, mayo, horseradish and lettuce($ 11). But the sandwiches are nothing when compared to the homemade quiche($ 8); thick with creamy egginess and leeks and encased in the crispiest pastry(no soggy bottoms here). I chose the house-cured trout with hash browns and a poached egg($ 16). The egg was freshly poached, the trout a vibrant, citrusy pink and the hash browns unbelievably crisp on the outside, but still holding their shape on the inside. A swirl of hollandaise sauce would’ve made the meal complete, but that’s me being fussy. As if a fabulous selection of lunchtime goodies isn’t enough, I hear their cooked breakfasts are delicious and, of course, their sweets. Custard tarts($ 4.50), chocolate tarts($ 4.50) and pain au chocolat($ 3.50) to name a few. However, the grand finale are their cookies — voted the best in Sydney, and I can tell why. Oaty, chocolatey and nutty with a crisp exterior and squidgy interior. It was truly delicious, and made the perfect combination when eaten with their coffee, which itself is so good that people cross town for it. A massive thumbs up from me, and I shall return(almost every day).
