If a bookshop/giftshop could sit in the lotus position and resound a good, loud ‘Om’ into the universe, this’d be the one. As I walked in, the woman behind the counter dealt with an annoyingly vague customer ‘Oh, I dunno, I just want something…’ with effortless calm. I smiled and looked happily over the selection of pop-Buddhist and hardcore-Buddhist books,(even kids books), handmade and ethically sourced gifts. Let’s face it, you can’t get much more ethically sourced than a wall art sculpture handmade in Haiti out of recycled oil drums. Talk about ticking ALL the boxes… It’s a warm space only subtly, not chokingly, incense-scented and the smiling staffer was a delight. I walked out with a blockprinted by hand calico shopping bag and a book on meditative breathwork as a way to break writer’s block. You never know.

Essential wonders — I love Bodhi books there are twice loved gifts, like watering cans that have been created out of old oil large oil cans. The whole sustainable living drive is totally pushed in this shop and that’s one of the signature statements of Newtown — hollistic and sustainable living. The range of music is fantastic, ever been curious as to where your yoga teacher finds her cool tracks from, well this is probably a good guess. They run meditation work shops here too, as the name suggests, Buddhism is an underlying theme to this shop. They are very ethical and privilege fair trade, evolution, art music and poetry.
