I was a regular weekly customer well before they shifted into their new premises. Bigger isn’t always better and I find it frustrating having to wait minutes for a cashier to appear. Many cheeses can just be selected from the shelves so you don’t need to always have someone serve unless you want sliced meats etc. La Vera has won many cheese awards. I was curious as to which ricotta(low fat or full fat) won a recent award. When I asked the server had no idea. It was only when I asked her to find out did she go and ask management. It was the full fat ricotta that had won, not the low fat ricotta I regularly buy. Low fat is best for cooking as less watery. Also, don’t ever go there at 4.45pm and ask for shredded mozzarella as they clean the machine so they can be out the door at 5pm. It is sad that good service for a regular customer has gone out the door. Very disappointed and when the supervisor offered sarcastically to give me shredded mozzarella with cleaning chemicals mixed in it, what was I to say? This poor service causes me to rate a low 2. I would have given a 1 but I do like most of their cheeses.

This is one of those true finds, nestled away opposite Thorndon Park, tucked on a side street in Athelstone. Bottega La Vera carries a truly classical range of Italian products, from cheeses and pasta to a huge range of frozen product & biscotti — if you need something for Italian cuisine, you’ll find it in here. As always, fresh cut meats and cheeses are served with a smile, and there are some huge savings if you stock up on supplies. For a true taste of the meditteranian, drop in and take a look — I’m sure you’ll enjoy the range.
