Amalgamated Locksmiths

Well what can I say… Just a plain poor experience. After being referred to Amalgamated by my mechanic I called them first thing Monday morning. after a pleasent greeting I explained my situation and was referred to a person that deals with car locks… After 5mins on hold and much to my surprise I was cut off. great start… I then called back spoke to a lad named Dan who took my booking. I then asked him about a replacement key fob.
After checking he told me my car was a grey import! To which I informed him that my fwd was sold in Australia by Nissan Australia for 3 years and was definitely not a grey import… he then places me on hold and the phone is picked by a lad who doesn’t identify himself and proceeds to tell me in no uncertain terms and quite rudely that my car is a grey import and he has tried to work on them and I should call someone else…
Once again I explain politely that after 13 years in the motor industry I know the difference and I can assure him that it is not a grey import! Well mr said expert then proceeds to throw a number at me and say call this bloke he works on imports!.. and hangs up on me!
So all in a very unprofessional and disappointing start to my day. I would have expected a little more courtesy and customer service from a business that has been around for 25 years. Obviously in this industry you can have disgraceful customer service and still get work!
So to the unnamed «expert» from Amalgamated locksmiths I say Merry Christmas. and I will never ever phone your business again and I will encourage all in my position to never phone your business either! Poor.poor.poor…

I had a nasty surprise when coming home from work one day last week. The door to my apartment wouldn’t open. Just would not open. After being calm for approximately 30 seconds I immediately went into melt down mode and jumped to conclusions like «We’ve definitely been burgled» and «a crazy person jumped onto our balcony and has changed all our locks». Once irrational Siobhan calmed down, the logical thing to do was to call a locksmith, something I’ve never had to do before.
It turns out that at 3.30pm on a Friday it’s difficult to get a mobile locksmith to your house, probably because by that time any normal person would be enjoying Friday afternoon drinks with their colleagues. After 4 phone calls, Amalgamated Locksmiths came to the rescue. I only had to wait half an hour before someone came out to help. Luckily I hadn’t been robbed, it was merely a malfunction in the actual mechanism inside the door handle. The locksmith broke in, changed the door knob, cut us new keys and immediately became my Friday afternoon hero. Until he handed me the $ 200 invoice. Ouch.
So the moral of the story is kids, if you have to get a locksmith to open your apartment, prepare yourself for the sting to your pocket. On a positive note, the guy who came out to help was pleasant, plus I didn’t have to sleep in the hallway. Win!
