Great bar, super staff and good food. I got the ceviche. It was served in a tortilla bowl easy for rolling and dipping. The fish was fresh and the citrus and cilantro mix was awesome. Although this is a starter, it was plenty of food for me. I also got chips with smoke chipotle and siracha pepper dipping sauces. Both were solids and clearly communicated to the staff I was American!. The local beer selection was outstanding and the patio area is one of the most unique I’ve seen! Check out the pics!

If I had to rate this place on venue alone it would probably be a five. I love the look. The brick work inside, the mirrors, the wood, the drum kit chandelier. Even the ladies toilet was gorgeous as far as restrooms go. The courtyard is also very inviting. I came for lunch on a Tuesday and had The Lucky Dawg. It looked amazing but the taste didn’t fit. The roll tasted a little stale and I wasn’t overly impressed by the chilli beef. I don’t eat pork sausages very often so that could be why it tasted odd to me… My partner had the Fat Cat burger and was happy with it. The price of the meals $ 17/$ 18 seemed reasonable for the size but $ 4.50 for a coke was a bit ridiculous. The staff were quite friendly though and I really enjoyed the music and atmosphere. I’d come back again to try their dinner menu, but another taste fail will be it for me, no matter how much I love the design.

The Lucky is a beautiful new addition or refurbishment I should say to the newcastle scene. With a sleek and contemporary fit out the courtyard eases you into a relaxed and chatty mood. The Lucky offers a variety of areas to relax and enjoy the company of small and larger groups. The food is ok, with a complicated and unique menu. The fish tacos are ill-advised, but other selections give a hearty and decent meal. Good set of cocktail jugs and wide variety of other beverages.

No longer take bookings for tables under 10. We waited 45 minutes for a table on a Wednesday night, but you can grab a drink at the bar. Smaller groups were seated faster. The food was worth the wait. We shared a BBQ platter plus tacos, hot dogs and burgers, and all of the meat was prepared perfectly. The ribs are just amazing. It was really well priced for the amount and quality of the food. We washed the food down with a few local beers and the choices on tap are pretty good. The ambience out in the atrium is perfect — lots of activity and energy but the noise level is low enough to have a normal conversation. I would definitely eat here again.

While I’m sure I’ll be back, my first experience at the Lucky was very average. The covered courtyard is beautiful and no expense seems to have been spared in the fit out… but in the lunch time I was there it was full of rude, scummy people. And I’m not being elitist here, I’m talking about business people(mostly men) talking loudly on their phones and pushing to the front of the bar lineup. Today at lunch the Lucky attracted people who think that they are more important and their time is more valuable than yours. I had a $ 12 Reuben sandwich and it was soggy but flavoursome. It was just a pity I couldn’t wait to get out of there.
