Friendly staff, efficient service and awesome food. No complaints. The acai bowls are to die for, the coffee is great and the big breakfasts are fantastic too. Will definitely be back here!

A clean and confident café, the Depot offers a great selection of breakfast options. Its coffee is consistently good and they provide good service. One of the small list of places in Newcastle that can manage a decent Macchiatto. Staff are generally amiable but don’t go out of their way to improve your dining experience, leaving you be. Which depending on your needs can work well. Not ideal for larger groups. Stick to around 3 – 5.

My second time here at Depot on Darby for breakfast. Went for the Depot Breakfast with poached eggs and a shot of espresso. All items were cooked to my liking, excellent and friendly service from our waitress. Get a table outside to people watch and enjoy the sun.

The menu is a little arty, but the food is quite good. I love the coffee here and the service is really friendly. Sit by the window on a nice day and watch life walk by. I’ve spent hours here before reading the news and relishing life.

Ordered a slow cooked beef rib Thai inspired salad and it was incredible!

The food is delicious and I love how late they’re open! Breakfast goes until a decent time and the staff a super-friendly. Definitely one of my favourite places on Darby St.

Delicious. Fantastic. Superb. Maybe a little overpriced, but good LORD the FOOD! It’s just so GOOD! The Cubano was the best Cuban sandwich I’ve had outside of Florida. Take it from someone who lived in Tampa & ate Cuban sandwiches at LEAST once a week — this place does them proper justice. The jalapeños are an inauthentic but totally welcome addition. The cheese is melted just right, the sandwich is pressed beautifully, & the mustard — it’s just right; not too much or too little. My partner’s chimmichurri steak was to die for. The thick slab of meat that any lesser cook would have undercooked or burnt was a PERFECT medium. & the relish… Delectable. I was torn between wanting to trade because it was that good, & not wanting to let him near my blissfully delicious sandwich. Well worth the price. Next time I find myself in Newcastle I know where I’m getting lunch.

Extremely overpriced, and not a very exciting lunch menu for a vegetarian. The meals I’ve had were pleasant, but not worth the price.

I live around the corner from the Depot, so it’s a convenient place for me to go for a glass of wine or a coffee when I just want to get out of the house. There are quite a few places on Darby St that fit into the tapas-wine bar genre and I think the Depot more than matches them all. Decent coffee, good selection of wine, some fantastic lunch menu specials and late night opening(the latest on Darby St I think) are among the high points. The staff are usually very good, which is something I am always surprised about in Australia(compared to say, America). I ordered something that turned out to be markedly different from the menu and mentioned my surprise to the staff, they insisted on giving me a discount, despite my protests that I was just mentioning it. It’s a little over-priced for some of the mains and tapas, but the food is good quality and the atmosphere is just right. Good for groups, couples or even a quiet evening with wine and a book mid-week.

Casual place for a meal. Mains are better value than the tapas. Nice atmosphere without feeling crowded. Breakfast is also a good option.

Mains excellent quality. Tapas overpriced. Pretty good buzz on a Friday night.
