Casual but professional atmosphere. The staff are a highlight! The coffee is great but a bit expensive compared with other local options. The are menu items and both hot and cold dishes of the day available in trays at the counter(The portion size various wildly depending on who serves you). Food it’s generally good but they don’t take many risks with the flavours.

The General Sherman 3 Barry Marshall Pde Murdoch A small business needs to be unique to exist and survive in this highly competitive world. The owners of The General Sherman obviously had thought long and hard about the statement above and they managed to be extremely unique with the location of their establishment: in a hospital complex. Now, you might say, «There are plenty of cafes in hospitals.» Yes, but not at this standard. You will find The General Sherman café on Barry Marshall Pde, the main street that divides St John of God Murdoch hospital and the recently opened Fiona Stanley hospital. There are plenty of paid parking around. As you walk into the restaurant, the funky interior décor and the smell of freshly brewed coffee will make you think that you’re in a funky and hip café somewhere in Leedy, Subi, or Freo. Guess what? You’re not. You’re in a hospital. It took me a while to process it in my brain. Today was our second visit for brunch. It was sunny outside and there was plenty of natural light in the dining area. We ordered the pulled pork benedict, truffled mushrooms with spinach & balsamic glaze, a cap, a latte, and 2 babycinos. We thought the pulled pork benedict was on point. Eggs were cooked perfectly and the hollandaise sauce was delicious. The owner, Charlie, told us that the pork is marinated and slowly cooked overnight and freshly pulled every morning. The result is tender, juicy, and melt-in-your-mouth pulled pork that makes you wanting more. I was also impressed by the generosity of the truffled mushrooms dish. The combination of the mushrooms, the beautifully cooked spinach and that amazing balsamic glaze on a couple of sourdough toasts was definitely a winner for me. The coffee is so good. Subtle but substantial at the same time. It’s not the kind of coffee you would expect to find in a hospital. I’ll return just for the coffee. And they have the Pay-It-Forward scheme, where you can pay for a coffee in advance for other people who can’t afford it. The kids were happily entertained by the colouring pages and coloured pencils provided and their babycinos. If you check out their instagram page @the_general_sherman, you will also see that they do cronuts, donuts, croissants, and other bakery items. However, they’re so popular, they normally run out by mid morning. Overall, a fantastic little café in the most unusual place.

I dropped in for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. Truth be told, I was surprised to find a spot like this in a hospital precinct! Potted plants, booths and woody tones of décor, if this had been next to a beach, it’d have fit right in! Parking was a breeze and with very affordable hourly rates. Alternatively, you can also take public transportation as the hospital itself is right next to the Murdoch station. There’s plenty of seating available, in all kinds of configurations– benches, booths, bars, and tables for one. Table numbers are, wait for it, letters of the alphabet! Staff members are friendly and extremely helpful. I walked in without a clue of what I wanted– after a few moments of conversation with the server, I had ordered the most popular item of the day(the quesadillas) and a Vitamin See cold pressed juice. The juice came out almost immediately with the quesadillas not far behind. Serving size was pretty decent; I felt quite satisfied with my order. If you’re in the FSH/St John area, I’d definitely give this place a shot. I didn’t get a chance to try their coffee but I’ll definitely be back soon.

This café has surprised me and continues to exceed expectations — from the very first cronut I had, which has been superb to the evolving dishes they produce. The truffle mushroom dish for breakfast is also one of the most flavoursome dishes I’ve had. The staff are very friendly and almost feels like a second home. I highly recommend it. Thank you for such excellent service. :)

When my friend David asked me for a catch up, I suggested the General Sherman café especially since I’ve been wanting to try their summer bagel that I stumbled upon when I was browsing Instagram. General Sherman is located right next to the entrance of the Wexford Clinic at St John of God’s new building. Parking is available on site and the first 30 minutes are free. David came together with his pregnant wife(Caroline) and mentioned to me that they frequent the Wexford medical centre for the pregnancy check-up. However they usually went through a different entrance that led them to the nearby Coffee Club. We found a seat quite quickly considering we came during the peak lunchtime. The staff was really friendly and even though they were busy, they still managed to pull a smile and served us politely. Caroline chose the readily available pulled pork and roast vegetables from the servery while David and Jeremy went for the pulled pork burger with chips. I chose the Summer Bagel(yay). The summer bagel was really refreshing especially with the caramelised apple slice inside it. I would love more of those apple slices! This bagel was made from pumpernickel bread and consists of shaved Melosi Ham, caramelised apple rings, refreshing berry relish, cream cheese and spinach. The dense pumpernickel bread is quite similar in taste to rye but it has a tiny bit less calories and will marry well with thinly sliced smoked salmon. Jeremy and David enjoyed their pulled pork burger while Caroline really loved her roast vegetables. The lunch meal definitely had a good generous portion as you can see from the amount of pulled pork inside the burger. Similar to Timber Café, the General Sherman used wooden alphabetical letter as the table number. I waited for quite some time for my Chai Latte but was happy with the taste of it. Unlimited tap water also available at the café. Everyone was satisfied with their meal and we all had a great time catching up at The General Sherman. I know for sure that Caroline will go back to find The General Sherman’s famous cronut next time she’s due for her pregnancy check-up.

I work at FSH and let me tell you the food options locally are pretty uninspiring so I was thrilled to bits when this place opened. At first I was a bit thrown by the Bain Marie set up, it’s just that it makes me think of cafeteria food and that time I got food poisoning… Not a good start. I am pleased to report though that the food is top notch and not at all cafeteria-like. I had the meatballs in mushroom sauce, sweet potato wedges and pesto salad, my lunch date had the spicy pulled pork, roast veg and quinoa salad. Both were generous servings and equally delicious. I’m told a liquor license is pending which is good news for knock off time on Fridays.

First time trying this new venue at SJOG Murdoch. They have a couple of options from the kitchen but the main offering is the combination plates with 1 or 2 meats and a couple of sides. We tried the meatballs with wedges & pasta salad and spicy pulled pork with the roast vegetables and black rice salad. All parts were delicious and generous serves. The staff don’t seem to have their service process nailed so it seemed a little chaotic. Nonetheless we got our lunch quick. There are a range of cronuts and other dessert options plus coffee so I will come back to try those and explore the other lunch options.

Not bad at all! Quite surprising for a medical centre. Great coffee and friendly service. Pleased to see something more hip than coffee club!

Just having a checkup at the Wexford and discovered this nifty joint. Much to my surprise as we only intended to have a quick cuppa at the coffee club. Quite a snazzy place for the staff here, bet they’re happy!!! :) Regular coffee prices and donuts look Devine!!! Will def come back upon every visit here.
