I do like to support the smaller toy stores when I can, but can’t resist a peek into Toys R Us when I’m in Mt Gravatt. I’ve spent lots and lots of money there over the years, not because it’s expensive, but because the range is so extensive for most lines, from stuff for tiny babies right through to big kids toys. I think it’s pretty good value and quality; better when the specials are on. Of course it’s popular and gets really busy on holidays and weekends.

For those of you who are sick of Mr Toys Toyworld, or other funny toy shop places, you need to visit THE original toyshop Toys R Us. There are only 2 in Brisbane and I think this is the better of the two. There is a Babies R Us here too, so you can find cots, cradles, bibs and even get your cheap babyfood here. They have their own brand of nappies, sell cheap huggies, and have awesome displays of the bike you want to buy. Many other toyshops only have them in boxes, but this one has live demo ones you can ride around the store. You’re not supposed to though, but no one stops you damnit! They have prams here, they have clothes here, they have barbies and guns and lego. What I love about this place, is that it’s not just a toy shop, it’s an all in one shop. From the furniture to the prams, to the clothes to the stuffed toys, it has pretty much all baby stuff covered. It even has baby books and linen. My favourite home away from home to take the kids and if you sign up to their newsletters, you get exclusive online deals with cheaper rates than other places as well. Woohoo!

This shop is not just for the kiddies. For me, it’s a great place for a trip down memory lane to see all the cool toys that weren’t around when I was a kid. You wouldn’t believe the abundance of cool, cheap toys available here. Okay, Legos, designer Barbies and Thomas the Tank engine brands are still expensive but there’s a heap of no brand products which make for awesome playtime. Things like fake kitchen appliances and plastic foods, nerf guns and all their variations, and a huge range of board games. Drool. If money’s a little tight, wait until their sale season as Toys R Us have ridiculously good discounts.
