I’ll start by saying as a kid appropriate restaurant The Peasant’s Table knocks it out of the ball park. There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor space for kids to run around, with a playground nearby. I counted 10 high chairs, there’s a baby change room, kids menu, kids eat free Thursday night and the staff are very friendly to kids. Now don’t take this as its a glorified sizzler or Maccas. Oh no, Peasant’s Table serves up a selection of adult food at standard prices(Perth we have to stop complaining sooner rather than later or stop going out and paying the prices) and feels less like a ‘family’ restaurant but some where between casual and hipster dining. I’ve always found the staff and service lovely, the coffee well done and the food tasty. I recently went for a Sunday breakfast and was disappointed to hear a number of menu items had run out and others about to run out. I guess they don’t restock after a Saturday. But my open omelette was fluffy and packed a flavour bunch. Hungover Hubby loved his big breakfast.

I had a chicken pie, which tasted like canned chicken soup. We also ordered the weeks special cocktail, but after 20 minutes were told that the drinks guy wasn’t there and they weren’t sure how to layer the drink. 5 minutes later we were told they’d run out of one of the mixers. After order different cocktails we waited another 25 minutes for delivery. All up we spent $ 80 for a very average lunch(a salad, pie and two cocktails). Seems like your a-typical Perth café; lacking service and quality food.

Well, this was pretty disappointing. I’ve been meaning to come here for a while so when in the area today we decided to pop in for a quick bite. I ordered the chicken and kale salad and my husband had the chicken pie. After ordering we sat down outside(quite a nice seating area) and then decided on their advertised cocktail to accompany our lunches. After about 15 minutes the lunches arrived, but still no drinks. My salad was nice, but nothing special. The chicken was pretty tender, but the salad was extremely dry. I could see there was some oil on it but it seriously lacked moisture. The chicken pie my husband had was quite tasteless. It reminded me of tinned chicken soup — not what you’d expect for a $ 28 pie. The chips on the side were well cooked but the oil tasted old so they were left untouched. By this stage the drinks still hadn’t arrived so I went to investigate. Turns out they were having trouble making it. It was a layered champagne cocktail and they explained the creator works nights and they’d already had two failed attempts to recreate it. I went back outside to wait. A few minutes later thy came to say they ran out of ingredients and offered our money back or another cocktail. We chose another cocktail each. Cue another 10 minute wait with no sign of a drink. Lunch has been consumed and we’re keen to go. I go back inside again and see my cocktail on the counter. The waitress looks at me and says, «Oh, your Cosmo is ready.» I turn around and go back outside to wait another 5 minutes for the other drink. They eventually arrive with no apology or explanation as to why they took so long. So I ask. She tells me they had a big table and were doing their orders. No apology about any of it. If you don’t mind shitty service and average food, get yourself down here sometime soon. Perhaps Saturday lunch is not their best time?

Such a shame this place is overpriced, and inadequate. A beautiful outdoor setting and relaxed vibe with lovely staff, occasionally. Ordered mushrooms with goats cheese and poached eggs on toast. Received one small, stale piece of toast, and two beautifully poached eggs on 3 or 4 slices of mushroom, and a dot of goats cheese in the corner. I do mean, a dot. Please, do not put goats cheese as a main feature of the plate, if it is hardly visible.($ 18 gone) My friend also ordered the beef brisket burger(pictured). Probably would have eaten the cold, lifeless burger that came with one slice of tomato thrown in, if it wasn’t so overpriced. But unfortunately, for the first time in a long time, we were forced to ask for a refund. The Manager was gracious and responded with«thank you for your feedback» which was lovely. Such a shame, but it’s time to take a stand against restaurants and cafes that decide to overprice, and not provide. I was genuinely shocked about my experience, and hope to help anyone else avoid ruining their mornings/afternoons. This restaurant is actually the reason I decided to join Unilocal and have my say! With so many wonderful restaurants and cafes in Perth, settling is not an option anymore.

I really loved the look of this place and while the staff were friendly, the food was average and the wait time poor. Located just outside the Mezz shopping centre, it was hard to find on street level with Apple maps telling me I had reached my location while I strenuously objected. The place was funky with wooden tables and features and ropes hanging from the ceiling. The coffee was good but no fancy decorations or froth. I’d give it a good 3.5÷5. The wine list was small but good. Happy with the selection and recommendation made by the Waiter. My duck Ragu however. Blah. Ragu should be rich and vibrant like an tomatoey orgasm in your mouth. The pappardelle should be al dente holding every delicious mouthful that you sinfully devour. This Ragu just wasn’t. The richness was missing. The duck chunky and not fall apart. The pasta was a touch overdone and just broke into chunks. I was a little sad inside. Sorry Peasants Table.

Nice location & waitstaff/décor etc. coffee is nice but ruined by using So Good. Need to use bonsoy or vitasoy to please all of us soy drinkers out there!

Yumm-o! My friend and I split the huevos rancheros and mushrooms on toast, which were both delicious! The huevos rancheros was the highlight with the scrumptious guacamole!(I personally find it a bit had to find authentic yummy guac in Perth) I also had a delicious dirty chai latte! Props to the chef that helped out on the floor while they were short-handed! He was very friendly and made the wait much easier! Great customer service!

I used to really like this place but it’s gone downhill. Went tonight with the family — Tuesday — not busy — the place was pretty empty — 1 hour for basic mains … Risotto was tasteless and bland, the pizzas ordinary and not as good as shop bought — kid’s fish and chips pretty drab. Oh dear — such a great venue and interesting décor marred by over-priced dreary food that one has to wait an age for … Not in a hurry to go back sadly.

My eggplant parmigiana was nicely presented but small and the tomato sauce was overcooked and too concentrated. My husband’s lamb shank with chickpeas was delicious — as it should be for $ 36. Not a raving fan and unlikely to hurry back despite being a local.

Not that I’m a fussy customer or anything, but having to be a barista myself I expect more when it comes to coffee. Not sure if they’re being unique or just lazy, but serving a coffee in a honey jar? Seriously? What I don’t know is whether they warm the jar first before pouring the milk. That’s even worse. I can barely touch the cup, the coffee’s burned. I’m too lazy to go to the counter and ask for another one. So I just didn’t finish it to let them know how horrible it was. It’s a common sense. Why make the coffee so hot they can’t even touch the cup?! If I was the one working I’d make another one. Or keep an eye on the milk to make sure it’s not burnt. The price is reasonably good! But I’d rather pay more than getting served a burnt coffee in a honey jar…

I really love what they’ve done at the Mez shopping centre, with a mix of eateries, video stores and a few shops. The Peasants Table stands out as a slightly more upmarket quirky eatery for this shopping complex. The staff are friendly, if not entirely knowledgable of their menu. We were seated inside as requested(no booking) and asked what drinks we’d like before even having been given a drinks menu. When asked for a menu the waitress commented on how sparse they were and went away to find us one. We ordered a beer and cinder and mains for lunch which included chicken wings with a side of chips($ 16) and chicken and leek pie($ 22). The food came out quick, the chicken wings were crunchy in their coating and slightly spicy(if a little under salted). The chips were good and the blue cheese dip sauce was my favorite! The Chicken and leek pie our was nothing to boast about– very under seasoned, but a nice flaky pastry on top. Casual lunch or a drink here is nice. Maybe even a last minute decision for dinner when I don’t feel like cooking.

I’m trying to try new places and I’m glad because it’s a good find! A little too family friendly for my liking though. My husband and I shared the seared scallops on a corn purée for entrée. Very nice but was pricey for only four scallops. I decided on the caesar salad with grilled chicken and avacado. Was a very satisfying meal. My husband ordered the pasta of the day — it was nice but not a big enough serving. For dessert we ordered the chocolate mousse and sticky date pudding. The mousse came in a jar and again, was a small serving. The sticky date on the other hand was very substantial. On Friday and Saturday nights they have a musician playing an acoustic guitar. While it was nice to have that, it was loud and make it difficult to hear. But all in all I was impressed. Being in a shopping centre precinct there was plenty of parking.

The food was fresh and tasty. It was a really lovely setting for a relaxed lunch with the family. I had a gorgeous pork belly with coleslaw(half plank) and was satisfied. The large glass of red and coffee went down well too. The tacos were hit and miss from other diners, the prawn tacos were really good but the lamb tacos lacked spice. I really liked the bright and relaxing atmosphere here. I think it would be a good place to go if you want to talk to people and enjoy a decent meal.

After peering through their windows for many months, I finally found the time to sit down at the Peasant’s table for a quick brekkie. The venue’s interior picks up on the warm industrial feel typical of most new eateries popping up in Perth. The breakfast menu encompasses all of the usual suspects at the usual prices. I opted for French toast($ 9.50) while the other half had the big breakfast($ 18). There are no distinct pros and cons about this place, so I shall just make a few comments: 1. Upon being seated, we were informed that orders were to be placed and paid for at the counter. Shortly after, a large family seated beside us were offered table service. This is not a criticism… I’m just going to assume that the staff use their discretion based on the potential complexity of the order? 2. The meals were presented on wooden boards. While this is the«in-thing» and was aesthetically pleasing, the boards had presumably warped over time and therefore shook clumsily as we tried to cut our meals. 3. The venue offers a good number of indoor and outdoor dining spaces. It is within close proximity to the communal playground and there is an outdoor television which regularly screens children’s shows. As such, it has become an ideal place for families to convene prior to the weekly Woolies grocery run. All in all, the Peasant’s Table offers a much welcomed addition to the Mezz Shopping Centre.

Really enjoyed our late afternoon lunch here on the weekend! Sunday around 2pm we wandered up & enquired about lunch & they had the full menu available. We had the half planks of the crispy pork & squid. Both were delicious & the perfect portion size for lunch. Sticking to water we walked out for $ 15 each. Bargain!

Dinner for four on a cool Sunday night went with only a minor hitch. Generous-sizes kids meals of Mac and cheese and steak and chips arrived quickly and were tasty. The mains took a bit longer to arrive, but Barramundi on a bed of risotto was cooked perfectly and the beef pie was hearty and rich without being gluggy. A definite new local pick.

Being in a shopping complex I wasn’t really expecting anything fancy. It did look very inviting to go into! It wasn’t very busy for a Thursday night, but there was still a good vibe around the place especially with the outdoor area. We sat inside because it was just that little bit cooler since outside was a little humid. We were here for dinner. I ordered the steak sanga and my guests: lamb chops with minted cous cous, fish special of cod and stuffed squid and the prawn tacos. Food surprisingly was quite tasty! A little lack of seasoning, but I was pretty pleased! I love that everything was served on planks :) the waitresses were a little slow but they made up for it with their manners and helpful service. Flavours were there and there was little to fault or judge. Dessert we had sticky date pudding, honey panna cotta with berry compote(oh man I can never pass up panna cotta anywhere!), dark chocolate mousse and baked cheesecake. Altogether dessert wasn’t anything amazing. But it did fill me up and my taste buds were left pretty satisfied. Price-wise they do ask a bit much. For all our meals for 4 people it came to $ 166. For an eatery in a shopping complex it’s asking a bit much. Coffee was a plus though! Really well made! :)

This little gem was hiding only 2 mins from my house and I was so excited to go there! You totally forget that you’re in a shopping complex because of the great atmosphere including the TV outside for the kids and the playground. It’s a small breakfast menu but inexpensive and delicious, I had the eggs Benedict and it was so good! I also had a big mug of coffee for under $ 5, even with soy! Love, love, love. I really want to go back for dinner and cocktails in the sun so that will be the next step.

Ok so The Peasants Table promises a «Family Atmosphere» which is true in some respects, where it fails is in their lack of staff on the weekends. It’s hard enough to take kids to restaurants these days and keep them occupied but when you have a little one who’s been promised a «Chino»(Babycino) waiting for over 20 minutes for their special treat and when it arrives it’s just a cup of milk, no froth, no fun stuff and certainly not like the pics they have on their facebook page, I just think it’s misrepresentation. We ordered some Toast with Jam(which was delicious), French Toast that came with a Berry Compote, two coffees and the«Chino». The food arrived quickly enough but it’s a pet hate of mine especially at breakfast when food arrives before coffee! I like this place and I like what it’s trying to do but they’ve got to work on their service. It was a busy Saturday morning and there were just two waitresses who were friendly and attentive and one coffee maker for a fairly full restaurant and lots of take away orders coming in. I’ll go back again because the coffee is lovely when you do eventually get it but please Peasants Table, hire some more staff!

One star for the brand spanking new location at the rear of the Mezz shopping centre, that is now closed off to all but foot traffic(August 2013). One star for the fact the proprietors are giving small local producers a chance to ‘wow the crowd’ with their product with a view to making it a solidly available item on the menu, longer-term(eg: the breads and the preserves). One star for the super comfortable mixed seating — both sit down tables and outdoor couches, with lots of space around them for strollers. Big sucker strollers. There were lots of those. I’m not sure what this place is actually going for; whether they are targeting the Mt Hawthorn mumsies, nana’s and the kiddies, racing around and playing on the swanky new play equipment adjacent to the establishment. Or are they hoping for something more sophisticated, attracting the genteel with wood and metal finishes, funky exposed light globes and a food range that is served on trendy«boards» ? For me, I will not be racing back there and here’s why. One is the menu range. I’m not reading it and thinking«ohhh, I really want to try that». The steep prices are also off-putting. eg: $ 18 for a pie. A PIE? $ 40 for a 300g steak — scotch fillet at that(not eye fillet or rib eye). The outdoor table ordering regimen is odd: you sit, a staff member brings you a menu and some water, you decide, but then you have to leave the table and go and stand in a line, inside, to order. This means if you are a solo diner, you risk losing your table to someone who’ll slip in while you wait in the queue(unless you have left your impossibly huge stroller with squawking bub alongside it, marking your territory). But then the staff bring you your meal. Why not just take the order as well? The other things really can’t be blamed on the establishment, per se. I am so definitely not interested in listening to the rabble; new mums catching up with their girlfriends and/or mums, blathering on about their cracked nipples, what colour the baby poo is and how the cherub looks like the speaker /the father /the postman. There was literally at least one stroller at every table or couch. Cos let’s face it, it’s a perfect place to congregate, with the playground right there for the older kiddies and very easy access from the covered car park. The other thing is either smoking has not been banned in this area or the no smoking rule is not being enforced. I had to endure the dual assault: the saga of the comparison of episiotomy horror stories from the three over-indulged new mums next to me(it was almost a competition to see who had the worst version of events), versus the gobs of pollution from nearby smokers enjoying the Spring sunshine. All while I was supposed to be enjoying my calamari(it was quite nice, really) and mushrooms in a cute mini cast iron pot(it was too sloppy). Will I go back? Not of my own volition.
