Specialties
Ormeggio at The Spit specialises in Contemporary Italian cuisine with a regional focus on Alessandro’s home region, Lombardia. Ormeggio has Two Chef Hats in Sydney Morning Herald’s 2013 Good Food Guide and is proud of being a ‘hatted’ restaurant since its first year of opening.
Our adjoining kiosk serves great coffee, panini, homemade gelato and soft drinks among other things.
Boats moor at the jetty to pick up their pre-ordered hampers. Early morning walkers stop to buy their daily cappuccino. And sunset is when the west facing restaurant really comes into its own. The sun sets over the marina, the view up Middle Harbour is spectacular and it is a really beautiful place to be.
History
Established in 2009.
We, Alessandro Pavoni and Fraser Guthrie, have been working together almost continuously since we met in 2004. Our dream since then has always been to open a waterfront restaurant together serving fine food, in a professional yet friendly style.
We have both had success running our respective sections in various establishments both in Sydney and overseas. Both of us have more than 10 years experience each, an actual combined years of experience totalling almost 35 years in such varied hospitality outlets such as one, two and three Michelin starred restaurants, bars, cafes, function centres, family restaurants, and most recently, prior to Ormeggio’s opening, the five star acclaimed hotel, the Park Hyatt Sydney.
We believe in quality, simplicity, passion and teamwork. These four words sum up our attitude to food, to service and to style.

The charismatic Alessandro Pavoni has opened Australia’s eyes to the breadth of regional Italian food. And the glories of a true risotto. Opening the beautiful waterside restaurant Ormeggio in 2009 and appearing on MasterChef has provided him with the perfect platform to express the finer points of the cooking of Lombardy, his home region. He is also one of the few Australian chefs exploring the cutting-edge of contemporary Italian cuisine. He trained in Brescia but has worked in Michelin-starred establishments such as la Rotonde in France and Villa Fiordaliso on Lake Garda.

Alessandro P. says,
«Alessandro opened Spiedo in the Sydney CBD in late 2011. This more casual venture gives him the opportunity so showcase more traditional Italian.»
