GJ’s does pizza takeaway pretty well. Taking a different approach to the nearby Pizza Peppers, GJ’s have a very affordable menu with a range of a dozen or so choices. Giving more toppings than Dominoes, GJ’s is probably better value overall — especially with 2 large pizzas for $ 14.95. I ordered a Ham and Pineapple and a GJ’s Special without anchovies. One thing that they do quite commendably for a pizza place is the base. It was not overly oily and tasted as good as proper restaurant made pizza(such as Alfonso’s on Hutt Street). Toppings were quite nice with pineapple and capsicum being the two stand outs. One let down however was the quality of the ham which wasn’t as nice as even budget places like Dominoes(it tasted gritty). I ordered earlier in the night when service was very quick. I imagine it would get busier after 6 or so. Staff were friendly and pick up was effortless. The store itself is nicely set out with a large menu that can easily be read from across the store. One gripe I did have was the fact that the pizzas were very well cooked. Whilst they were not burnt or inedible, I do think a minute or so less in the oven may have made them a bit nicer. To summarize, for the price you pay, the pizza is good for takeaway. It is nicer than Dominoes, on par with Pizza Peppers(at Woodcroft’s Pimpala Plaza) but doesn’t quite reach the quality of Eagle Boys Gourmet Range or proper restaurant pizza. I was definitely not disappointed though and will definitely try this place again.
