Los Latinos Cafe

I’ve been here twice for dinner during the week and I want to like it. It’s decent, some dishes are very good, while others are bland. There are a few likes and dislikes.
Likes:
1. Empanadas: they are made very well, both the filling and the dough in which it is encrusted in make for good bites. Good stuff.
2: Tacos: the chicken tacos were good. The tortilla in which the ingredients are wrapped in holds everything very well and doesn’t get soggy and break. The filling was very good as well.
3: the décor: it makes for a very lively place, the colors can be warm during a cold day or exciting on a warm night out and the drinks flowing.
Dislikes.
1. The staff: they are all quite cold. A couple of the guys never cracked a smile or gave/​had a welcoming tone either time, nor did I see this with out patrons. I say that because as a Hispanic male, having grown up in a Latin environment, and a family that owns/​owned Mexican restaurants, we like to invite guess in and are very welcoming, a smile on our faces usually. I don’t expect them to laugh out loud, but a «bienvenidos» (Spanish for welcome) and a smile when you walk in the door would be nice. It works with the lovely and lively décor that the establishment is built with.
2: The Menu: it’s handed on a clipboard with some plates on the first page (sometimes available, sometimes not). Flip the page on the clipboard, and you have a wine menu, then drink menu, then other foods that are either on the first page or not. It’s very poorly put together. A menu with a flow would really help out when trying to find that item you looked at and knowing where the chicken splits from the beef and splits from the other items.
3: the burrito: it’s massive, I’ll give it that. But it’s a giant tortilla filled with rice, really. While there was beef in there, it was just some finely minced beef. It really lacks in any sort of flavor and texture. The sauce that is poured over it really takes over and takes even more away from the rice burrito.
Two other minor things that were annoying that I have to point out. Some of them were chewing gum while taking orders, talking, serving food. This isn’t an American diner, Flow isn’t taking our order. Just a pet peeve.
The other: there’s a $ 1.50 fee for eft pos. I believe most business get charged about .30 cents to the dollar for their eft pos software. To get charged $ 1.50 after spending over $ 50 for dinner is kind of a rip. Not good practice.
I hope this place succeeds and ends up doing well. I really do. I want to continue eating here. But I do believe that there are definitely areas that need some improvement. I may or may not eat here again. I may just end up driving outside of my neighborhood for another Mexican joint. Lest they do something to change this place up.
