Complete Children’s Health has been a god-send for me. Kids tend to need a lot of appointments at various times. This means appointments for referrals and bouncing between services if you are unlucky. However, CCH in Moonee Ponds set up a practice that covers all your bases under one roof. It’s has easy parking around the back and I’ve never had a problem getting one. However, it is close to the bus and the railway station too. Inside it is very child friendly with tv showing kid films and lots of toy stations. The actual surgery rooms also have toys and child friendly décor to calm the kids down. The best bit for me is that the service is multidisciplinary, meaning you can get your paediatrician, paediatric sub-specialists and allied health professionals all under one roof. The vageries of the Medicare system means you often still have to go back to your GP for a referral if you don’t want to pay upfront and full price. However, I guess that is also an argument about making sure there is continuity of care between your GP and other health services. Mainly with the allied health professional, you can get a referral direct from the paediatrician rather than go back to the GP. The Directors of the practice all trained as paediatricians in Melbourne and share a close association with neighbouring hospitals, which can also prove very useful. Our paediatrican is delightful and an sensible woman who gives good advice without telling you how to suck eggs. All in all, I’m very happy with the service we get here.
