Awesome fusion food! We had the rice paper rolls, spiced wings, and tofu to start with chili & lemongrass chicken and the tamarind ribs as mains. Awesome flavors in the broth bases! We finished with the banana roll with coconut ice cream, caramel sauce & these little fruit flavored gel balls that come with the dish. It’s BYO wine & open til 9!

Very disappointing unfortunately. The food was just OK, but nowhere near the quality of viet food in box hill, or Victoria St. in Melbourne. Not terribly authentic. No lettuce or mint served with with the large Chinese-style spring rolls. Served a very small bowl of phở. Broth was bland and watery, and no decent chili paste! Service was poor with one very overwhelmed waitress. In short, don’t bother.

Went for dinner the other night and was really impressed we had heard good things but the combination of strange opening hours and odd location it never really jumped out at us. We had the rice paper rolls and chicken wings as an entrée the rolls were fresh and light with an amazing peanut sauce. The wings were lightly coated and fried but not greasy at all. We shared the main of the pork belly poached in a sweet broth. It was amazing I was literally drinking the broth straight from the bowl in the end. Just wonderful and quaint with really reasonable prices.

Awesome Vietnamese coffee. Try it hot or cold, with condensed milk or without! Interesting opening hours.

Found this place a few years ago by accident, and have been coming here pretty much weekly since. It’s small, and the menu isn’t extensive, but the food is delicious. There are often some really interesting specials to be had as well. Jimmy & Vivien are lovely hosts: even when it’s really busy they still try to take the time to chat and get to know their customers.

I really enjoying having friends over for dinner. I often prepare rice paper rolls, my favourite Vietnamese dish. I put all of the ingredients on the table, along with a bowl of hot water, a bunch of rice paper and a selection of sauces then everyone helps themselves. When I’m not eating rice paper rolls at home, I am eating them at Avachat Café. This gorgeous little café is one of the best suburban Vietnamese restaurants around. The décor is really cool, and although a little small, it is comfortable. Vietnamese food is always so fresh and full of flavour, and the meals at Avachat are just that. Try the Stir fried soy nuggets & veggies($ 14.90) and if you eat in — make sure you look up for a surprise!

Back in the day, the only notable things about Mitchelton were the train station and Brookside Shopping Centre. Nowadays, Mitchelton has become something of a cultural hub. Mitchelton now offers locals a more cosmopolitan lifestyle with all the cafes, niche stores and restaurants popping up all over the suburb. One such restaurant is Avachat Vietnamese. Avachat is a tiny, pokey little space just a couple of doors down from El Taco. The space is cramped– but it doesn’t take away from the experience at all. I frequent a lot of restaurants that feel crowded, and I guess it just becomes part of the atmosphere. They’ve got your classic choices like phở($ 14.90) on the menu as well as some other tasty Vietnamese treats like spicy tofu with flavoured shallots($ 7.90) and grilled pork vermicelli($ 13.90). The prices are more expensive that what you’ll find closer to the city, but I don’t find them overly objectionable. The servings are quite large. Avachat Vietnamese provides locals with a good place to try out something a little different. This is, after all, the only Vietnamese restaurant I know of in the area. I, for one, am extremely happy that slowly but surely, I am becoming more able to get Vietnamese from places outside of West End, Fortitude Valley and Sunnybank. The more the better I say. You really can’t ever have enough phở.
