History

Established in 2009.

What started as an idea by four friends to market the best beef jerky they had ever tasted, has now turned into a business turning over tonnes of beef each month — and growing at an alarming rate!

We strive to make our beef jerky the best in the business, we continue to develop new flavours (Geronimo Jerky makes the ONLY beef jerky with Guarana AND the Hottest beef jerky in Australia) and most of all we’ve remembered to make this journey fun– AND NOW Geronimo Jerky Café now open for business trading 7 days a week.

It was always something in the back of our minds to have a café one day. Well, three years on we have finally done it! So now you can come to our store, try some beef jerky, have a coffee, a sandwich or cake and enjoy a complete Geronimo Jerky experience!

So who is running the café you ask? Well, do you remember our promo girl Jasmine? Well we didn’t just hire her for her looks and salesmanship. She is a pretty freakin’ awesome barista!

Geronimo Jerky is everything it says on the tin and more. The jerky product is some of the best you’ll find in this country and at reasonable prices for the quality. I was also won over by the coffee (from Elixir Coffee, an excellent northside suppliers) and the always affable staff.

The jerky speaks for itself, it is «the best beef jerky you’ll ever taste»!! There’s always good stock at the shop but follow Geronimo Jerky on Facebook & OzBargain for great monthly online specials.
The café is my local, (I call it my office!)
The staff are friendly and the clientele is so diverse!
The elixir coffee is awesome and the brekky & brunch menu has something for everyone.
Being popular can be a curse and it can get busy, don’t stress, grab a stool, take a load off and use up all of the Big Chiefs free WiFi!

Gosh darn. I just can’t help but get Sheppard’s Geronimo stuck in my head every darn time I visit this local café. Why is it so damn catchy?
It’s probably catchy like this cute local café is. In an unassuming location, I think Geronimo first came to my attention back in the days when I first realised Unilocal was a thing. It wasn’t until this week that I actually ventured far north and then a little west to discover, that as well as serving some top-​notch jerky, they also knock out a decent Elixir coffee and breakfast menu. It’s fairly simple — avocado on toast, a breakfast beans special, a breakfast burrito and a few other bits and bobs but there’s something to be said for the simplicity, the number of people dining there over the weekend and the service with a smile.

I didn’t go to their store, but I’ve had basically every single flavour of theirs back when I was a worker at Brother Espresso.
I never appreciated jerky until I had this, and basically hoovered it like there was no tomorrow. I tried to go cold turkey, then I tried exploring other brands, but all I could think about was how bloody good geronimo jerky is.

Coffee is great here and they have some tasty treats, as well, it’s the commercial kitchen for the Geronimo Jerky brand.
The service however in the coffee shop leaves a lot to be desired. One staff member in particular is standoffish and extremely sharp with clients. (not just myself I saw other puzzled patrons last time I was there)
I won’t take my business there again.
For coffee I’d suggest walking over to Taverner (if you want a big coffee) or Delicatezza (if you want something to eat too).

I first discovered Geronimo Jerky at the Mitchelton Jan Power’s Farmers Markets. As their store is on Blackwood Street, they just open up on Sunday and set up a stall out the front with lots of free tasters.
The jerky is really delicious — very dry and full of flavour and they have a range of different spice levels depending on what you like.
Pow Wow — the mildest. It’s sweet and savoury
Original — the classic jerky
Spicy Shaman — a bit of spice, a bit curry-​like
Buckshot — spicy and peppery
Sidewinder — medium spicy
Blazin’ Saddle — this one is spicy! It’s also a Bronze award winner at the 2011 Sydney Royal Fine Food Show!
Flamin’ Arrow — this one claims to be the hottest jerky in Austalia!
Stampede — contains guarana and caffeine! That’s right, it’s caffeinated jerky.

My jaw dropped when I saw a sign advertising Geronimo Jerky. Finally! I will never have to experience jerky withdrawals ever again.
The Big Chief, otherwise known as Mark Hoyle, is the main man behind this novel operation. Part Native American, he came out to Australia 20 years ago and brought his generations old family jerky recipe with him to share with us. His jerky has no artificial colourings or flavours, no preservatives, no msg, no nothing. He’s also very generous in allowing you to sample the goods before you try them.
The small packets of jerky are $ 6. I’d suggest getting a bigger packet though. You wouldn’t believe how more-​ish this stuff is. You can choose from Original, Buckshot (black pepper), Spicy Shaman (curry), Sidewinder (Chocolate Habenero chilli) and the Flamin’ Arrow, which is apparently, the hottest chilli in Australia. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t, I wasn’t game enough to find out.
Geronimo Jerky shares the space with Valentina Café. Val’s coffee has earned itself quite a reputation in Mitchelton. Her father owns a Columbian coffee plantation and imports the beans directly to her. Her coffee making skills are second to none too.
Both businesses are independent and family run. It’s nice to see Mitchelton developing into a bit of a hub. Geronimo Jerky and Valentina Café provide those living in the outer city limits with high quality, unique goods that you don’t have to travel miles for.

Posing as a double business Valentina Café/​Geronimo Jerky is a nice little place. Today, a sole staff member does his best to service a line up of local businessmen and women. From the outside there’s nothing really eye catching about the little business, but full tables indicate something is being done right.
I wander in and order a flat white and look around the store. In one corner of the tiny space a fridge with an assortment of soft drinks and juices stands. Next to the fridge a sad looking and scant food cabinet begs me to consider a feed. Turning back to the barista and ask for a menu. He lets me know that they don’t have a kitchen and says they get all their food delivered in the morning. What’s in the fridge is all that’s left. Fair enough.
I see some rack shelving with the second venture resting on it. Geronimo Jerky. Bags of dried meat with names like: Spicy Shaman, Buckshot and Sidewinder have me particularly interested in trying the goods, but maybe next time.
My coffee is served and it’s pretty good, if I lived around the area I’d definitely be stopping in on the regular. I leave Valentina wandering down Blackwood Street noticing that there isn’t too many café around.
