I have had the unenviable pleasure of being instructed to visit Midland Job Link. I cringed when I was instructed by my friendly Centrelink advisor; this place would be my next mandatory port of call. I envisioned a run down and tacky room, brimming with bogans. Well, I was partly wrong. The centre looks as though it was built in the last few years and it’s actually pleasant, inviting and spacious. And one hundred percent sparkling clean. There are about ten relatively new computers. And about three or four staff members are dotted around the ample sized room, seated at their own desks. The staff are there to help job seekers and can be seen by appointment or simply when they’re free. I found all the staff to be enthusiastic and helpful yet lacking the knowledge to be of great assistance to those seeking professional positions. For help with my specific field of expertise I think I need to look a bit further afield. There are a few job seeking books and a nice area where you can sit and read them. All up, I found the job centre to be a valuable resource; some of the books helped me immensely and it’s good to be able to go to a nice, supportive environment when you’re unemployed. Government money very well spent.
