Shhhh this is Midland’s best-kept secret. Café Mueller is hands down the weirdest«restaurant» I have visited and the experience is not easily forgotten. This suburban home is cluttered with dining tables and furniture, quietly housing a German duo who offer very popular home-cooked dinners(Thursday to Sunday only). We tucked into a plate of tasty chicken and veg soup. The food is homely and comforting which was perfect for chilly evenings. I loved the unusual freshly-baked bread with fennel seeds. Delicious! We happily ripped into our schnitzels — juicy pork with a golden crunchy batter, plus German potato salad and iceberg lettuce with an unusual mayonnaise and vinaigrette dressing. I am a greedy guts and could probably have eaten another slice of the dense cheesecake, but I definitely finished the night with a full belly. The idea behind this café is to spend an entire evening chatting, eating and drinking. It means the wait times between courses can be very lengthy. I would be surprised if you left before at least 2 hours tick by, so make sure you bring a top-notch dining companion. This is certainly not a child-friendly experience and is not suited to fussy eaters(that would include adults who are vegetarian, gluten-free, or on a no-carbs diet). Karl serves the food and his partner cooks up a storm in the kitchen. There are no menus — you simply eat what is cooked that night, with a choice of dessert. The three-course set menu is roughly $ 35 per person, with a little extra for coffee. Café Mueller is not for everyone, but we found it a really enjoyable experience. If it sounds like something you would appreciate, make a booking and give it a shot!

Have been wanting to head here for years now but kept getting sidetracked by other plans. It is in a house. Hidden by bushes. The place is tightly packed but gives an air of cosiness with the random assortment of things hanging off the walls and on the window ledges. Had a full set of beef soup, pork schnitzel and cheese cake; and kirsch icecream for dessert. Soup was really tasty and went well with the home made bread, schnitzel was good but not super amazing. THECHEESECAKE however… I ordered a second one even though we were super full because it was that good. Especially when it comes out warm. The icecream was good too and you might as well get one of each if you’re sharing. But just get another cheesecake as well. It takes a long time to finish the meal but if you like your company and don’t mind spending 3 hours chatting over dinner then this is a great place to head to. Come check it out if you’ve been wanting to. Open late(midnight) so swing by for dessert or make a reservation on the phone for dinner.

Just love this place. It’s a bit like heading through the back streets of Paris and finding great authentic little places. You wouldn’t even know it’s a restaurant from the front. .rambling gardens it’s quaint. It’s BYO. The host Karl is our chef and his food is made with love. It’s perfect … no menu as such it’s what he cooks that day:) The house bread is amazing. The various art that adorns the walls is eclectic romantic… different and all part of the overall charm. Love!

Café Mueller is my happy place. Eclectic mix of furniture, art, cobwebs, clutter, German music bellowing from the retro tape deck in the hallway. Karl does the service. Len does most of the cooking. Schnitzel nights are the best, but it’s luck of the draw with what is for soup and main. Karl is a welcoming host who is quick with a gag but not always quick with service. Café Mueller has no rules Karl will tell you. So don’t go there if you are time poor. As far as I’m concerned Karl could get away with any kind of service because from the time the homemade bread arrives it’s heavenly. I still can’t figure out the exact flavour of the bread but it’s good. Soup that tastes like you have stepped into the kitchen of a German grandmother who knows how to inject pure love into her food. Mains depending on the night range from extraordinairy to excellent. Then the baked cheesecake is divine. Everytime we have taken someone new there they leave smiling and so happy that they found this little gem. It’s such a simple business model that works because the hospitality and the food are awesome. BYO but Karl will pull out a bottle of his own to share for free if you show up without going to a bottle o on the way. Places like this are few and far between.

Café Müeller is a memorable and quirky dining experience. The restaurant is housed within a quaint old cottage. Inside you’ll find a rabbit warren of dim-lit dining rooms crowded with vintage trinkets, old pin-ups and other nostalgic documents. There is no menu. The chef will whip up whatever takes his fancy on the night. German homestyle cooking at a very reasonable price. Tastes like Grandma used to make. Warm, charming, curious, soothing. A place for a slow-paced and casual dinner with BYO wine, a group of your nearest and dearest and free-flowing conversation.

It’s hard to tell that Mueller Café is actually a restaurant as it’s located in a quiet, suburban street and when you go in it feels as though you just entered someone’s home. This popular café has little trinkets everywhere and an art studio out the back and serves traditional German meals, it is not a regular café by all means. There is also no set menu, it is a 3 course feel however the owner whips up whatever he feels like and this varies from day to day. On the day we went, they served roast beef with a German style potato salad, it was delicious! The owner comes around and has a little chat to you and it is very interesting to here his story yet he ensures he does not over stay his welcome. Even though you might have to wait a little longer for your meals they are certainly worth it, in fact, it seems to make the experience all the more relaxing and enjoyable. For dessert, there was a choice of two options, we chose the scrumptious baked cheese cake — it was to die for. Café Mueller is not something you would see advertised, so it seems more like a secret treasure; its also BYO and charges nothing for corkage fee. The only thing I would suggest is that if your sitting outside you bring mosquito repellent, apart from that it was exceptional.
