Some years ago I read a clutter clearing book. For some unknown reason, I took to heart everything this book said. It suggested if you haven’t used something in six months, get rid of it. If you haven’t used it in more than a year, my God!, definitely get rid of it. Right now. Before the superfluous item destroys your soul and your life. Taking this book seriously, I went into a mild panic about all the clutter in my life that was obviously sapping all opportunity and vibrancy from my world. I now have a sneaking suspicion that this book was written by the owner of an op shop because such owners are really the only ones who benefited from my clutter clearing mayhem. I dropped much of my prized possessions off at Midland Anglicare Op Shop. And the shop itself seemed okay but the thing that really turned me off this place was the attitude of the staff. Now, this was several years ago but the staff that worked there then were pretty rude. I went in, announced I had some stuff to drop off and was told to ‘just put it out the back!’ — like I obviously should have realised that. I encountered this ungrateful attitude a few times and ended up taking my precious goods elsewhere. I ventured back in to this op shop, with much trepidation, the other day. I am pleased to report that I was treated in a kind and courteous way and the attitude I encountered many years ago was not found here on this particular visit. I was actually impressed with the vast array of high quality garments that fitted perfectly into this warehouse style op shop. I picked up a gorgeous, ethereal, floaty frock for just four bucks. A wonderful way to spend my, now pretty, penny.
