Cool Whisky bar, plenty to choose from Scotland and Japan. Had a couple of bank buster Whisky if you have $ 200 to drop but I think I’d save it for my other loves in life. Was too full for their charcuterie or cheese board so will try another time. Top place for a drink with friends or a date.

To all the whisky connoisseurs out there, you have to try this bar. I took a date there for a drink or two after dinner and it was really nice. It’s small, cozy and very intimate which makes it perfect for a date however it does get very busy so be weary of that. Being a scotch drinker, even I found their menu(which contains a broad range of rare single malt whisky) quite compelling. However, the guys are very nice and will happily provide you with their expert assistance in picking a poison to drink. I shall return…

Do you love whiskey? Do you know the difference between whisky and whiskey? Do you like intimate, busy, well stocked bars, with knowledgable staff that won’t make you feel like an idiot? Oh, and do you want your bars to be open late? This, my friend, is the bar for you. An unassuming entrance opens onto a dark and woody bar, and the scent of delicious libations fills the air. The atmosphere is welcoming, without the faux charm of some of the cities newer bars, or the overly twee design you might expect from a whiskey joint. While there’s a premium on seating, waiting around for a few minutes will net you a comfortable seat – and sitting at the bar comes thoroughly recommended. The bartenders make a mean cocktail – they know their way around an Old Fashioned or a Penicillin, and their list of house cocktails is good. Or just drink straight whisky, but make sure not to play the game where you point at a random bottle on the shelf; there’s some seriously exxy stuff up there. Prices overall are reasonable, particularly for inner-Melbourne, and you can happily while away a few hours sampling their peaty treats. Get on it.

Great place. Huge selection of whisky and staff are great. A couple of whisky’s to help warm you up on a cold day. Looking forward to my next visit.

We decided to visit this little hideout after it appeared on Unilocal’s ‘The Man Issue’, and we were not disappointed. Beyond the black curtains we were greeted with a mood lit room sporting a chilled vibe. The bar staff were friendly, knowledgable and had an apparent passion for the humble whiskey… of which the array was extensive. It was lovely to start our night here, next time I’ll make sure we have time to linger a little longer. The bar also houses other spirits and a selection of wines for those who are not whiskey lovers.

Love this place! Fantastic whiskey selection and great staff. Prices aren’t ridiculous either as you might expect. Enjoy!

Fantastic whiskey selection, nicely complemented by a small but well-chosen beer list. Knowledgeable staff. Cozy, almost speakeasy feel. Hard to go wrong. I went there last night, and am looking forward to several more trips there while I’m in town.

As a scotch lover, this is an absolutely wonderful spot on the Melbourne nightlife scene. It’s easy to walk right past it(as I did the first time I went), but when you find it, it’s a treat. Most recently, I arrived soon after opening and only one other customer was there. Two bartenders assisted me immediately, and I spent a good chunk of time trying to decide what I wanted after they recommended some bottles based on my likes. Prices ranged, for a glass, from $ 8 to way above $ 100. My first class was around $ 9 and was a very night Highland with a touch of peat, but it got a bit sweet at the end. As a result, I went back to my roots of Islay peatiness for my second glass, and got a great $ 26 glass that was absolutely unbelievable. Throughout, the bartenders were very helpful with my indecisiveness, and were very patient. They also seem to offer cheese and meat plates? They looked good. Wish they had free WiFi!

Alright so I’m not reaaaally a massive Whiskey drinker, but I went here for the first time last night and it was fantastic! Don’t be afraid, you don’t need to love whisky to attend, though it’d be a great place to start your whisky drinking adventures! The staff are incredibly well informed, helpful and friendly, and are more than eager to assist you in choosing the perfect drink. Bonus points for the cute accents too, really. There’s an incredible array of whisky(or is that whisky?) options, but also a pretty great array of cocktails and regular spirits, and it’s the kind of beautiful little hidden speakeasy where the staff could whip you up anything you wanted, I’m sure. ALSO the cheese is really quite outstanding. Do order cheese. It’s beautiful and intimate, the perfect place to cosy on up at the bar, or if you’re lucky enough, steal the comfy looking window seat area. There’s room for smallish groups, but the seating is pretty limited, so get in early if that’s what you’re after.

Yeeaah Buddy! Whisky and Alement got it going on. Bear in mind that it’s quite a small place, which means it can get crowded rather quickly. If you like reading books and like whisky, well this is probably the place for you. Getting lost in pages ans pages of a thick compendium of a huge whisky list and then deciding upon what you want some 15 – 20 minutes later is probably a common scenario. I would recommend avoiding the busy times of Friday and Saturday nights, as it may be super busy, But I’m worried it will get to the super busy scenario through out the entire week. Still $ 10 for a boilermaker on a certain weeknight is good value– a whisky taster and a full beer from a range of six is Great value and a good way to get insight into whisky if you’re being introduced for the first time or starting out. I’m sure this place is crammed full of other fantastic craft and drinks, but the boilermakers got my nod, and it was quite hard to get out of the boilermaker appreciation drinking session I had recently. Still, I need to come back here for some more and further options and another adventure. Serving all your whisky needs. Probably gets to crush Capacity though.

Five stars if you’re a whiskey fan. Then again, if you’re a whiskey fan, you’ve probably already been here more than once. Good location. Helpful staff. Interesting interior that’s a bit subdued, but not overly so. The place has a cozy, snug feel. This is good. Dark and grim would be a bad combination with whiskey drinking. The main event is obviously the whiskey, and the interior revolves around that. I’m sure many dramatic photos have been taken of the wall of backlit scotch bottles. The whiskey menu is just replete, borderline intimidating. Just point the staff in the right direction and they’ll be able to find something to suit your taste and/or budget. Even though I’ve been a few times and asked the same lame«something peaty» question, the staff have always managed to pick something novel and interesting. Sit here and sip scotch over a deep conversation. Or have a quick dram on your way home.

This is the best of both worlds for me. It has that divey no frills atmosphere, but a selection of bourbons that won’t leave you disappointed. It’s one of those few places i can spend $ 20 on a single drink and not feel like a douchebag. Long live Whiskey and Alement!

100% agree with Chris that this place is awesome. Been in Melbourne 7 days and have been here 3 times. Plenty of good scotch for under $ 10 each, and an awesome bar staff. The place could be a bit more active, but that’s no fault of the owners. Just a great place to chill and enjoy a beverage.

One of my favourites. The newly remodelled and renamed Whisky and Alement(ex Chez Regine) is simply brilliant. This is one of those places where the staff are super enthusiastic about the drinks they’re serving, and they are going to be able to answer just about any question you throw at them. From«I think I like scotch, what do you recommend I try?» to the snobbiest whiskey related question you could ask; they’ve got you covered. Whisky and Alement also offer a «School of Whisky» for beginners to experts An easy place to spend hours tasting and enjoying different drinks, there’s something for everyone(and several somethings if you happen to be a scotch fan). Prices are by no means exorbitant, and it’s a nice comfy place to hang out. I’m concerned I cannot do Whisky and Alement justice; you should definitely go and try it out yourself(and.you know. invite me).

It’s so good I almost don’t want to write a review for fear one day soon I won’t be able to get a seat. A whiskey lover’s dream! Their passion for great drinks at a fair price extends to the wine and beer menu too. An experience worth having over and over again, it will take years to get through their menu. Challenge accepted
