Flaming pirate drinks! My friend and I ended up here one night, ordered a couple of the tiki pirate drinks, and as we watched the flames spread over the table we knew it was our new spot. Hidden down a lane(isn’t everything) off little Bourke, head up the stairs to the old warehouse turned bar. The two bartenders are like an old married couple. Really know their stuff and like experimenting with new drinks. After a couple consecutive visits they became very friendly, as they are with a lot of their customers, which leads to a bit of swearing and insults. Makes you feel like old friends. They also have a tendency to share a round of shots with their customers. The drinks menu is actually very good. There’s one that tastes like a lemon cheesecake but something for everyone’s taste. My friend and I love the flaming pirate drinks. Sweet, fruit, strong, and on fire! But if you are so overwhelmed by decision, just ask them and they will help you pick something out.

I eyed off this place for a Thursday night date… best place for an intimate chat on one of the many Chesterfield couches. Music was great, staff incredibly attentive and friendly, we felt so looked after yet given space to enjoy our night. We ordered some tapas from the downstairs restaurant– the pork belly was like sex on a plate. Funky cocktail list too. Definitely returning here…

This place doesn’t go out of fashion. Laid back and cool. The staff don’t keep hassling you if you only nurse one drink. Good hidden gem

The kind of place where the bar staff treat you like friends instead of customers, and are more than happy for you to put your trust in them and see what they come up with. Place is very effortlessly cool, a loft with exposed beams and comfy couches all creating a very relaxed vibe. Seems to be magically jerk-free too for a city hang-out — so if you are a bit of a jerk please move along!

We were looking for a warm, welcoming bar for a pre-dinner cocktail and Murmur delivered. The staff made us immediately feel at home and dished up some delicious cocktails. All the classic leather lounges were taken but we were able to find a cosy, relaxing spot to enjoy our drinks. A perfect space for couples and small groups. I would very happily return to Murmur if in the area again.

It’s sort of telling when, after 10 nights in Melbourne, five of them have involved Murmur. The place never feels crowded or rushed. Lots of couches and chairs abound for seating, though I have a fondness for sidling up to the bar. The place has a good bottled beer list, and a selection of wines, but their forte is their well stocked bar, and the duo of bartenders, Matt and Kylie, that staff it. They seem to always have time to delve into your particular twist or flavor, working with you to hone a cocktail to your exact wants. Even offbeat requests like beer-based cocktails get handled with aplomb. Combine these mixological skills with great personalities, and it makes for a bar where it is easy to relax and enjoy. I look forward to my next Melbourne visit, and a trip or three to Murmur for My Drink, and urge all of you to do the same.

It’s almost always packed at every bar in the city on a Friday night. So when my friend took me here for drinks, I immediately fell in love with its seclusion and ‘less crowded’ atmosphere. To be honest, I almost wanted to submit a bad review to deter people away from(my) bar and have this gorgeous place all to myself. Guess I need to learn how to share: p Anyway, the first thing that caught my attention here was this delicious aromatic smell coming over from the bar. I looked over and saw Kylie(the bartender) making some epic concoction of sorts and quickly ordered whatever she was making — it looked and smelled amazing.(I’ll post a photo of the drink when I manage to get the photo off my friend — phone battery died that night). It is hard to describe my joy when I found that the drink tasted better than it looked. An average cocktail price is $ 19, which is very reasonable given its quality. The place is decorated with couches and dimmed mood lighting. Although their couches aren’t as fancy or comfortable as the ones over at Fall From Grace, it’s pretty decent. There are a couple of couches they could consider replacing though due to a little wear and tear but it’s a really minor issue — pardon me for being a bit of a fuss. Another great thing about this place is the music — they go through Motown hits and a couple of jazz picks(both my favs!). Definitely would come back again and again.

Now that I am here I’ve realised I have visited this little bar before, and was utterly besotted with it… I am glad I have returned early in the night, that way it’s now etched in my mind for future reference! Thanks for the recommendation Mel P… so love a place with its terrific vibe, feels like coming home! Oh a must try would be the bitch slap cocktail… zingy with a kick! Wish you were here! bit of a post script… cool play list, can this place be any more endearing?!

I popped in on the night of their Halloween party and the vibe was pretty good. We perched at the bar and watched the guys at work. Most of the staff seemed friendly enough — particularly Heidi who ended up serving us and chatting as she made other drinks. I had the ‘famous’ zombie but wasn’t too impressed by it. For once in my life I thought it was too big for a cocktail — usually the other way around for me! I was quite sick of it by the end. I think I would come back but maybe just for the more basic drinks. I would rather hit up 1806 or Ampere for cocktails. More care taken in making the drinks for roughly the same price.

My new fave. Although it is a little hard to find as their is no signage on the outside, I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t packed although we were there quite early. I discovered my new favourite drink — a drambuie based cocktail with lemonade and bitters that looks relatively simple to make but goes down so nicely. The décor and vibe of the place is really nice not overly cluttered but interesting and the staff were super friendly and accommodating. Will definitely be going again soon.

Murmur is a bar I’ve been wanting to go to for quite a while now. It’s also a little hidden, underneath a blue covering over the stairs. Or to make things easier, just behind Portobello Rosso and then up the stairs. It’s an old loft, but once inside it is rather pleasant with it’s wooden flooring and spacious ceiling. Bar tenders are great for being friendly and giving good advice or recommendations. Drinks turn out well and the bar is pretty decently stocked. There’s a few nice places to sit down and hopefully with the wooden flooring it won’t be too noisy.

A perfect evening: Tapas and wine at Portello Rosso downstairs; carefully made cocktails upstairs at Murmur. The DJ was playing motown, and Matt, Andy, and Kylie were having just as much fun bartending as the guests drinking their bevvies. Murmur’s cocktail menu is overwhelming — everything from traditional to cheeky tiki, and they have no problem sussing out what you’re looking for and taking it from there. I had everything from a perfect Manhattan to a flaming passionfruit tiki drink; Felt like partying at a friend’s apartment but with upgraded drinkware and flames.

One of the first bars I was introduced to in Melbourne, two years later Murmur is still right up there as my favourite. A great meeting point for Friday afternoon drinks, Murmur is the perfect location for cocktails, beer and everything in between. While the range of beers isn’t enormous, they more than make up for it with the cocktail menu which runs the whole gamut. It’s easy to lose track of time in Murmur; the calm and intimate atmosphere is pure bliss before a night in the clubs! Located smack bang in the middle of the city, you can’t go past Murmur for a meeting point or even a couple of weeknight drinks with a special someone.

Need a cocktail made with absolute care? Matt at Murmur is your man! Give him some general guidance«I like gin, bitter stuff, nothing too sweet…» and off he’ll go and make you something that hits the spot. I never have to look at a menu again — awesome! Come here when you have some time to spare and a good conversation partner, because the drinks won’t come quickly and so the focus is on relaxation and enjoyment.

Within about five seconds after arrival the place shot to being one of my favourite lounges in Melbourne. Everything about it is just perfect perfect perfect. Hard to tell what the best part is — the décor(eclectic vintage?), the drinks(delicious), the crowd(polished yet laid back) or the music(depends what time of the night you go, but always good). Favourite drinks: burnt orange rum sour(sit at the bar to watch it being made) and something lemony with eggs in it. Other drinks I’ve tried have also been excellent. It’s also worth mentioning that they have a pretty solid beer selection, which is unique for this kind of place — usually you would expect to just get cocktails, but here you can pretty much get whatever you like.

My partner and I have a saying — «Murmur. Always Murmur». That’s the answer to any question relating to where to go for drinks. Murmur is our favourite cocktail bar and for good reason. The cocktails are brilliant, the atmosphere always fun and the bartenders always seem to be enjoying themselves as much as the patrons.

As if Warburton Lane wasn’t hidden enough… You’ve maybe been to Portello Rosso. Beautiful little Spanish influenced tapas resto. But the real gem is right upstairs. Murmur is tiny, has an old warhouse elevator looking hole in the floor that looks into Portello, and you can grab a lot of their small plates for dining up in the bar. The real deal are their drinks, though! They have a great spicy margarita style cocktail. They also have a wide range of tequilas and chacacas. Ask for a shot, and then ask really nicely and quietly for their spicy, bloody-mary-esque chaser. It’ll burn, but burns SO good! Cute couches in one corner, and bar seating at the other. So comfy. So hidden. Just don’t run and tell everyone… only your best friends!
