MDTdesign is a jewellery design studio based in Melbourne since 1981. Expert jewellers individually hand make and custom create precious jewellery. We specialise in diamond jewellery, Tension set rings and Mokume Gane metal.

History

Established in 1988.

The Managing Director and Head Jeweller, Nicholas Theochari, started his business in jewellery manufacture in 1981.

It wasn’t until 1988 his business opened to the public as a retail store in 1988 as Melbourne Diamond Traders on Bourke Street and slowly over the years the name and store expanded.

Melbourne Diamond Traders was relocated but onto Swanston Street in 1990, and to the current premises in 1992.

The store had large renovations and expansion in 1997 to create the modern look we still have today. That was the year the name was changed to MDTdesign.

MDTdesign houses expert jewellers who hand make jewellery on a daily basis. Nicholas encourages his staff to extend and push their boundaries by entering national jewellery awards.

MDTdesign have been award winners and finalists for the last16 years.

Meet the Business Owner

Nicholas T.

Business Owner

Nicholas began his career in 1975 when he started his apprenticeship in jewellery.

He began his own business in jewellery manufacture on Swanston Street in 1981. Nicholas created other pieces for local jewellery stores but slowly became unsastified and wanted to communicate with customers directly and personally design and create their pieces.

From there it was the beginnings of MDTdesign.
