My friends and I were looking for a place to eat and we ended up stumbling upon this place. For my birthday dinner, I cannot say that I’m disappointed at all. Kun Ming is located on Little Bourke St, aka Chinatown. I’ve sampled a few of the Chinese restaurants lining the streets and I do have to say that Kun Ming is one of my favourites thus far if you’re looking for delicious Chinese food. A lot of Chinese food in Melbourne is too simple or too bland, bar dumplings. I can safely say that Kun Ming is a «true» Chinese restaurant. What does that mean, you ask? ~ Large communal round tables. ~ The mains are large and are meant to share. None of this«Small portion of ___over rice» shit. ~ They focus less on dumplings and more so on traditional dishes. Atmosphere: This is a very large and fancy-looking restaurant. Expect the hustle and bustle on any decent night for dinner. You might feel a little bit squished, but the atmosphere isn’t too hectic(in contrast to Shanghai Village). Customer Service: Really kind. There was a woman at the front who greeted us and showed us the menu, and our server was really nice, professional, and he KNEWHOWTOSTACKDISHES(very impressed with his ability to hold a mountain of plates… maybe I’m easily entertained). The food came out at very decent times even though there were a lot of people at the restaurant, which is definitely a plus in my book. Food: The food was absolutely delicious. I’m not too used to the prices of large mains in Melbourne given that I was raised eating Chinese food in San Francisco, but you can’t fault delicious food. I would almost say it’s well worth it. Delicious Char Kway Teow, perfectly cooked King Prawn & Veggies. — Overall, I would come here again to treat myself to a nice meal. The food is absolutely delicious. Although it is a bit rare for my budget, I had a fantastic birthday dinner!
