Eckersley’s Art & Craft

Great selection of art supplies, mostly serving the university students. I picked up some masking fluid, but it’s old and the product has separated. Very disappointing. Also, DONT try and use another students’ discount card– you will get the what-​for.

Handily located across the road from Miss Libertine,
Eckersleys is the perfect stop to stock up on all your arts
and crafts needs and supplies. Copic markers as well
as fine-liner’s are always a favourite of mine, but then
i see too many shiny new things i want.
Paints — acrylic and oil based and in range of sizes and
incarnations. Inks, Pens, Pencil, charcoal stuff,
Japanese Art paper, Sketch pads, Things one would
usually find at an art store, Magic tape, Paintbrushes,
Hobby knifes, and other miscellaneous art equipment.
Still wondering how to pronounce the store name…
I’m no closer. Tounge twiser indeed.
Eckeling, ecstatic, Eckersleys, ecstasy, Eckersleys…

Before I go in I always check the noticeboard at Eckersleys: there is information on exhibition, life models and that kind of thing. Nothing of interest this time but still it is worth checking.
I went to Eckersleys to get tubes of burnt umber and naples yellow oil paint for a portrait that I’m working on. I ended up buying the oil paint along with and a bottle of sepia ink and some new pen nibs. There is practically everything that you could want in art and craft supplies here from easels to craft paper. Salvador Dali in his book «50 Secrets of Magic Craftsmanship» recommends buying a new material to experiment with each time you visit an art materials store, so that is my excuse.
The staff are friendly and helpful and as they are all art students or struggling artists they do know what they are talking about.
There is a very large exhibition space out the back of the shop that is rented out, mostly to schools and other community groups. The exhibitions are rarely worth seeing and this time I couldn’t be bothered even poking my head around the door to look. They also have the occasional art and craft classes in this space as well.
