Have you ever woken up in the morning and thought to yourself — «Good morning Self. I wonder where I could possibly find a large array of authentic Russian Babushkas crammed into one small store for my browsing and purchasing needs?» Well, if you have, LOOKNOFURTHER! Here in the most beautiful arcade in the city, right off Bourke st mall you will find the store so aptly named Babushkas. Coming in every colour and size(literally), you will find beautiful hand crafted and authentic pieces that make a lovely gift for those who are babushka-ly inclined. Strangely enough, I have an old work collague who has one of these tattooed to her thigh. I know that if I ever had to buy her a present, I would come here. The craftmanship is beautiful, and the store itself is like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Check it out.

Exactly. Full of them. This is the one stop shop for babushkas. If you ever need one, come here. Here it is the real thing. Ranging in styles and price range, there’s a set of babushka’s here for everyone. They can cost up to $ 600 for the most amazing sets and they have some fantastic wooden chess sets too. Most Valuable Player: The Babushka set that had Michael Jackson through various stages of his like(and appearance). It seems that even amongst the classic beauty of a countries’ cultural icon, I find the trashiest thing. Either way, amazing store that’s completely full of it. Babushkas that is.

Babooshka, Babooshka, Babooshka-ya-ya! Although the song by Kate Bush«Babooshka» has nothing to do with these beautiful hand crafted Russian dolls, I cannot help singing the song in my head every time I walk past this shop. Another similarity between this shop and the song can be seen if you watch the film clip and look closely at her eyes. You will see the same facial expression on her as you would on someone who collects these dolls when they see one the really like. If you’re looking to buy someone a unique birthday present like I was one day then this is that place to come and find it. You might even pick something up for yourself.

I’ve said it before, and you won’t believe me, but I liked Babushkas before they were cool. I liked them when everyone thought a Babushka was a kind of Russian prince. I liked them when people looked at me strange for having several collections in my room. And I liked them when everybody else started to realize how fantastic they really are. So to this end of pleasing the masses, I will suggest this store as the be all and end all of Babushka shopping. It’s an entire store dedicated to authentic babushkas — not the kind made in China, painted in modern design. I must warn that they are expensive but they’re collectors’ items and they’re all beautiful. They have soldiers, Russian families, and even a chef. One day, when I’m rich, I will own them all.
