I would never choose to go to a steak restaurant as giant hunks of meat really aren’t my thing, but I was taken here as part of a work dinner thannng so had to grin and bare it. I was pleased to discover 1884 do a few dishes that aren’t hunks of cow, but they’re still hunks of things. I had the barramundi, which was so-so… it was an enormous serving, but because the piece of fish was so big it was quite dry on the edges. The middle was moist and tasty, but I had to eat the dry stuff to get there. The wine list is, as you’d expect for a wine bar, very extensive. Because I was on a table with steak-eaters I didn’t enjoy it fully as the majority wanted to drink shiraz, which was a bit much with my fish. Service was nice and they managed to bring out everyone’s mains together which was no mean feat with a group of our size.
