First of all, I feel that I’m somewhat cheating on my favourite Thai restaurant(‘It’s time for Thai’) by giving this place such a good review(maybe I’d give it 5 starts if it wasn’t for the cheating factor/guilt…MAYBE). I only got take away and didn’t actually sit for a meal but sweet mother of God… I asked for a spicy green curry and a spicy green curry is what I got! Delicious, hot, burning down my curry-loving throat. Now as much as I love the aforementioned Thai restaurant, it sometimes does lack on the spicy factor a bit… I guess they’re not used to Westerners loving spicy food. Anyway, you wouldn’t think much of this place from the outside, but if you have a Thai craving and you’re around Maroubra, don’t think twice!

I only ever feel like a Tom Yum when I am not well. I think the heat of the chilli really comforts me and speeds up the healing process. Seeing one on the way home, and a park right out the front, I felt it was destiny. Thai is ubiquitous in Sydney. I just wish I’d kept driving to the next corner. I hate saying negative things about businesses although I have to be honest about my experience. If you have had a Tom Yum you might know that it is called a sour soup, typically with prawns and chunky mushrooms. Well… it was sweet. The mushrooms were shrivelled and the prawns were dry. Ew! With an authentic name as they do and not some Western play on words like«Thai-ny Dancer» or some such, you would think they would get a dish like this right. Wrong!

I just had the most delicious curry named Choo Chee at Doy Tung Thai in Maroubra. I ordered the Choo Chee with lamb, it was packed with mixed vegetables and bamboo shoots, cooked in curry paste and coconut milk, it was not too spicy and was so delicious I had to order extra rice so I could soak up all the sauce, I could not waste it. The service was excellent and it was a well set out restaurant a very comfortable place to sit and relax. I would definitely return for the choo chee.
