Ivanhoe Hotel

Returned again to the Ivanhoe this time brought the family… Kids meals came out first which is perfect for a relaxing enjoyable meal, I had the Spaghetti Prawn all reasonable priced.

Pretty good. I love seeing the food being prepared. So organized and such amazing team work. They’re brilliant in the kitchens!!!
Although they got our order almost completely wrong. We ordered salmon and salad (we got salmon and chips) we ordered tartare sauce and we got plain mayo the chips were pretty delicious!
The service was amazing also! Will be back!

A really cool space with the new (ish) renovations, but The Ivanhoe has the least consistent kitchen you’ll ever experience. In general, the burgers and pizzas are pretty alright — but if they creep up in price anymore, I’m out (they’re already pushing it on anything of the non-​plain burgers and pizzas). Some of the staff are really lovely, others are real assholes.
Also on Wednesday lunch times (I never go any other times), it’s old people central. Not that this is a problem, except they always make the staff close the sunshades.

Fool proof place to eat. Being a large pub in a main tourist beach spot they have to be good or they will be taken down by the competition.
Pulled pork sliders are perfect and pizzas are made really well with fresh ingredients. Wash it down with a nice beer on tap or a glass of any other booze you could want. Beer garden is a great spot to hang out with some drinks and watch whatever sports game is on– shame about the smokers but whatever. Plus if your feeling wild the Ivanhoe club on the top level will leave you with a great hangover and sore legs from dancing to trashy music– all round good times.

It is not surprising that all of the pubs that I visited on the Corso at Manly were exceptional pubs simply because Manly is such a draw card for tourists (and much easier to get to than Bondi). This pub was certainly no exception, with two levels, a pretty cool beer garden as well as a balcony. I guess the only drawback that I had with this pub was the VIP Lounge (otherwise known as a pokies room) but then again I was hard pressed to find a pub in Sydney that didn’t have one. Oh, and this was the only pub on the Corso that didn’t have a view.

I find it pretty difficult to fathom queuing to get into the Ivanhoe at 10pm on a Saturday night but that’s the case these days! Pretty nice décor and outside sections are a welcome relief for those needing fresh air. Actually no, I take that back — they would be if everyone wasn’t smoking out there!
Didn’t see the infamous $ 10 steak on the updated menu…

Here’s a tip for the ladies: Manly was named by Captain Phillip as he sailed into Sydney Harbour and saw an Indigenous man standing on the headlands. The local guy was so statuesque and masculine that Phillip dubbed the area Manly. This may be urban legend or it may be true, I don’t know and sometimes Google ruins all the fun so I’ve elected not to fact-​check on this one.
One fact i HAVE checked though is the inordinate amount of good-​looking dudes live on the Northern Beaches. Well that’s if you like your men buff, tanned and metrosexual with a whiff of footy player. You can find these types of guys in every bar in Manly and the Ivanhoe is certainly no exception– and I’m just talking the bar staff. I popped in here for an early weekday pizza and bevvy with a GF and was treated not only to genuinely charming and friendly bar staff, but a pretty damn decent pub pizza and given the early hour a commendable amount of male eye candy. Manly pubs are subject to a bizarre curfew so if you ARE anywhere here late at night and want to nip outside for a ciggie/​phone call etc make sure you know the drill or you may not get back inside.

The Ivanhoe is like a Manly family establishment meaning that everyone who is a regular as a patron, or who works there from the bouncers, glassies, barstaff to the Manager have less that 3 degrees of separation between them.
When it opened in the late 90’s the nightclub was the popular level with queues, that floor has seen its dramas and remains closed for now. The queues are still present for the middle floor for the Sat night disco. Its quite a laugh to watch the V neck, skinny jeans and white shoes surf dancing around the floor. The ground floor is great on Thursday nights for live music and watching the ‘jolly’ kick around to the music which really starts to kick off from 9pm. Ivanhoe is also good to watch sports and to have that infamous $ 10 steak.
Theres the sports bar next door where the punters faces are as regular as the furniture, nice to see a big window across the whole front wall to give them fresh air.
Then theres the upper level which has also seen many shades of makeup in its time also.
What can I say its an institution without the years that the Steyne has on it but if you want to see the natives in their finest make sure you drop in to enjoy the happenings

I was introduced to The Ivanhoe of Manly, or The hoe, at a young age — about six, eating the steak lunch special with my grandparents in about 1998. Now, having reintroduced myself to The Ivanhoe as a Saturday night patron, I don’t think the décor has changed inside since the late nineties.
Hilariously outdated décor aside, The Ivanhoe is a popular spot for revelers at night, or diners during the day and the evening. The menu is still cheap, still good, and still the same as circa 1998. But hey — why mess with a good thing? Attracting an older crowd than many of Manly’s trendy waterside spots, the Ivanhoe on a Saturday night can usually be deconstructed like so:
Bottom Floor: Bouncers, old people and a queue — there is ALWAYS a queue outside the ‘hoe on a Saturday night after 10pm. «Go earlier!», my mother says. But then there’d be more old* people
*Old = over 30. No offence.
Second level: People «having a quiet one», which usually descends into a
giant mess. Typically a younger crew than the bottom floor invites. ANOTHER QUEUE for the top level
Top level: A crowded and fun dance floor; your best bet if you’re looking to get rowdy. Don’t go here on a date.
The Ivy really isn’t too bad though — cheapish drinks, a dancefloor and the
old favourites on the food menu mean that it consistently offers its patrons
a decent night out.

What an awesome place to eat!
If you’re looking for the pub meal and pub atmosphere, but want to maintain a bit of class and style, this would be the place for it.
And such a great location too — walking distance to manly warf and manly beach, on the main mall in the centre of manly! And because of that, if you live nearby, I’m sure you already know all about it. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the rest of Sydney had heard of this place too.
As you walk past, the place boasts a $ 10 steak, which is an exciting prospect for all involved (except Vego’s, who obviously wouldn’t care, because they don’t eat steak, being vegetaerians and all). What I like about the place though, is the space. You go inside and it opens up, so you don’t feel crammed in, like heaps of places make you feel.
This is a very good thing in Tyler-​ville.
