I’m always a bit nervous of restaurants that display reviews and awards that seem out of date — haven’t they done anything more recently to crow about? Ironbark is certainly proud of its 2008 – 2009 award, but I am happy to give it a 2011 one, even if they don’t display it quite so prominently. Given all the alternatives for eating in Manly, this one is a bit out of the way, but we were drawn in by the gluten free options … and have been back simply because it’s easy and we like it. Half inside and half sheltered outside, expect good basic family friendly Italian — children’s meals and generous glasses of Sprite are served just as enthusiastically as full-priced adult pizzas and pasta. It’s informal and a bit rickety, but a good extension to your lounge room — we’ve even had the kids doing their homework at the table while waiting for their meals.
