I ordered the calamari, my mother ordered the fish and chips. Our lunch was going good until my brother found a cockaroach in his fish taco. This is where our appetite was ruined and all just stopped eating. My brother got a full refund. The cashier/waiter was lovely despite all this.

.5!!! Cuz I don’t know how to give the half ~ A little tucked away in Manly on Wentworth @ Rialto Square is Fishmonger ~ RUN don’t walk to get here. Not a BIG place however don’t let this out you off. «BIGDISHES of delicious fishes» come from the Fishmonger. And YES! Fishmonger can use this phrase~ Choose your main course, like prawns then you have choice of how you want it prepared & the sides. I chose grilled prawns w/chips. Beautifully presented in a square bowl, lovely colors with the prawns, thinly sliced sweet potato ribbons & a slice of lemon. Also a said for the table not overly dressed just fresh greens various types, red onions, bean sprouts and the nice topper fresh sliced ginger~ Our server, James was helpful, made recommendations based on our number of guests WITHOUT being pushy or obnoxious… So just a perfect server for us. They don’t take bookings/reservations and the place is small, however in fine weather seating is outside is Gr8, and they do have tall heaters if the weather gets chilly ~ Only Wine & Beer served. We have been in Manly about a month and this is seriously one of the BEST meals we’ve had here, if not the BEST!

Really great fish and chips in a nice quiet courtyard off Manly Beach a bit.(So it is not touristy.). They have other things on the menu too, but know that the Mongers box can be shared by 2 if you are not famished. The fish tacos are large too, so one is enough per person. But don’t miss their fish(grilled or battered) and chips. Well worth the visit and price!

Eating the grilled Queensland barramundi as I’m typing this, and all I can say is that it is perfect. Eat it with rice if you want a dish reminiscent of home(especially if you’re Asian hahaha!). I rarely write reviews, but I’ll make the exception for this restaurant!

Stopped in for a quick bite for lunch and sat outside under huge umbrellas, after ordering grilled calamari, rice and soy sauce. My meal wasn’t huge so I wasn’t left feeling bloated or full which I quite enjoyed. The grilled Hoki with rice and soy sauce wasn’t as tasty as the calamari and without the soy it wouldn’t have been too enjoyable but if you’re looking for something fresh and healthy with a small, easy menu check this place out. The guy who served us was also super friendly which goes a long way.

I feel like a moron for not typing a review for Fishmongers Manly sooner … these guys gave me some of the best«simple» fresh fish I’ve ever had. My flathead fried fish was perfectly cooked, with exactly the right amount of battering and sauce … classic fish and chips, but done absolutely perfectly. My wife’s Tasmanian salmon was fresh and served with an interesting small drizzle of sauce that worked perfectly with it … I was there for the fish and chips, but I could easily have devoured her dish instead and been completely happy. They have plenty of tables outside, so with the right weather, you can enjoy a great lunch in an open mini-plaza … couldn’t be better as far as I’m concerned. I expected touristy crud so close to the ferry in Manly, and was pleasantly surprised at the incredible food they’re serving. When you factor in the check in offer(free beer when I visited), you’ve got an absolute home run. I can’t say I’ll be popping in to Manly again any time soon, but anything’s possible … and I know where I’m heading.

Took the ferry to Manly specifically to go here after reading many great reviews on Unilocal,so my expectations were high. We all ordered a fish basket. I got chips and NZ hoki(I think) and my partner got the salad instead of chips so that we could share. It was all great, but not amazing like I had expected. My fish was a bit small with more batter than fish, and the sweet potato cold chip slithers did nothing but add some visual pop to the dish. They seemed a bit like an Instagram lure than something meant to be eaten. Also my slice of lemon was all skin with almost no flesh to get a good amount of lemon juice on my fish. Chips were great, salad was great. Interior and atmosphere was average. I don’t think I’d rush to return to be honest.

Wow, what a great place! The previous reviews have it right, the food is outstanding. The crumble crust calamari is the best I’ve ever tasted. The monger platter was huge and everything was delicious. The chips are a mixture of an American chip, a British chip and roasted potatoes, well done combination. The Hoki fish grilled was also terrific. My wife had the special Barramundi fish with salad and it was all in the same bowl. She lives it. So, you’ve heard about the food, but the best part is really the people. Great service. It was also obvious from the other patrons, it’s a popular local place and the staff know them all.

Easily a best eatery around. It was a bit hard to find in the square. Just look for storefront next to Mr. and Mrs. White and you are there. My wife and I ordered the jumbo prawn salad and the grilled fish and chips. Both were generously portioned and tasted fabulous! The business is an order at the counter and food brought to your table eatery. Great setup! They have some limited inside seating but if you can, I would eat outside under the large umbrellas with outdoor heaters running if you need them. Given how it’s sort of well hidden, its location is fairly well shielded from the beach winds. p. s. The staff cannot be complimented enough as to how friendly and helpful they are. Very thoughtful and considerate. Charming folks to their inner bones.

I enjoy this place. I like the choice of fish and the taste of the chips. The staff are friendly and the service is fast. I highly recommend if you’re hungry and in a rush. 8⁄10

Fishmongers Manly is probably about a 5 minute walk from the beach. It’s a little off to the side from all of the souvenir shops and tourist traps, so it’s quieter — which is nice. It can be easy to miss, especially since the storefront only says, «Mongers.“There are a few tables inside, and some outside as well. Since I wasn’t too hungry that day, a friend and I decided to share the mongers box($ 20). It has a hoki filet, 6 calamari rings, and chips(or if you’re American, then fries). You have the option to get the fish fried or grilled. We ordered it fried but I wish we hadn’t. It was greasy and soggy. The calamari rings tasted like frozen ones. But the actual fish was pretty good. So it would probably be better if you ordered it grilled. Tip — check in on Unilocal for a free beer or wine!

Went here based on the reviews. Spot on and was not disappointed. Tried the family box and the fresh fish grilled. All tasted fresh and the portion sizes were good. I liked the casual environment and the attentive staff. Not a fan of fish and chips but these guys do a good job.

Fantastic. It’s just a small fish ‘n’ chip place, but the selection and quality is amazing. Pick your fish, most of which can be cooked in a few different ways, and pick an accompaniment(salad, chips, etc). All will be fresh, plentiful, beautifully cooked, nicely presented, and quickly devoured. I’ve had the grilled king prawns(so juicy) and the salt and pepper calamari(tenderest I’ve ever eaten) here. Both were delicious. They’re very friendly behind the counter, and happy to help you pick. I realised today that I’d forgotten to pay for parking, and they happily watched my half-eaten meal while I ran back to my car(no ticket, whew). Check in with your Unilocal app and get a free drink! Yay, 4 Pines!

Looked up Unilocal to see what’s around Manly and thanks to other Unilocalers’ reviews as well as photos I was eyed to Mongers box. Coming to Sydney, I’ve got to try good fish and chips and this place definitely offered excellent ones thus far. For a price of $ 22, you get a good portion of calamari rings, 2 slices of battered or grilled fish, sweet potato chips and hand cut chips aka fries(thick slices) with tartar sauce and a piece of lemon. The servers were friendly. Greeted me when I came in and out. Besides that, if you checked in though Unilocal, free wine/beer/soft drinks. Decided to go for apple cider — crisp yet more soda-ish drink. The battered fish was crispy and it was a good mix with the tartar sauce provided on the side. Among the items inside this dish, I love the sweet potato chips and the calamari rings. The servers also provided salt and peppers on the side and with an extra $ 1 you could buy different range of condiments like wasabi mayo. Do look at the tips section on how to get there as I had to ask a few people before finding this place. Definitely a good place to enjoy fish and chips here :)

Fishmongers serves great great food just a short distance from the main strip of restaurants on the beach. As others have pointed out, look for the fish picture sign with mongers written after it. There are 5 – 6 tables outside and few inside. All orders are taken inside and then brought out to your table. I’d recommend grabbing a seat outside, then having one person in the group order from inside. Fishmongers has battered fish, calamari, octopus and several other daily specials. They also have a decent selection of beers, a few wines, sodas, and waters in the cooler. We ordered the mongers box which came with 2 battered fish, 6 calamari, chips and tartar sauce for $ 22.00. The fish was some of the best I’ve had, but the calamari was what really stood out. Perfect cooked and so delicious, we walked back by to grab a to go order of fried calamari. The chips were also very delicious. We were also able to get a free beer for checking in on Unilocal which was a definite plus! Forget the fish and chips spots near the beach, check out fish mongers for a great meal, reasonable prices, and friendly service.

Sometimes, I realise that can be useful in nabbing some good deals in Australia. I got a free bottle of beer by using the«check-in» feature on the« Unilocal app» on my phone as long as I bought a meal from this place. I paid less than $ 15 for my meal here, and walked away with a very full stomach. The place is a little difficult to find, they are called«Mongers» for short, but it’s very close to the beach. When I walked in, it did not feel like a traditional Fish and Chips shop in England or a plebeian seafood restaurant in the New England region of the USA. I felt like I was in a place that had some of that sophistication and slight charm of Northern California and some of the modern essence of urban Australia. I had some great Fish and Chips. I got the New Zealand Hoki Fillet, with chips, and the flavour from the seasoning was really good. They came with this garnish of sweet potato crisps. Very few places can offer both sweet potatoes with regular potatoes. Presentation was impressive, this is not traditional Fish and Chips wrapped in a newspaper, they serve them in a nice bowl, giving it a very modern feel. Tartare sauce gave the fish a better flavour, and the fish had a decent crisp. As for the free beer, I wanted something locally brewed in Australia, and I had the 4 Pines beer, which is about as local it can get, since it is usually brewed in Manly. Very refreshing beer and was a good complement to the meal. The man who worked behind the counter was very friendly, helpful and very keen about serving chips and beer. Overall, if you are looking for some excellent seafood at a good price, in a nice setting near a beach, this place should be an excellent choice. I thought I had some of the best Fish and Chips in Australia so far, and it was a great ending lunch after a morning of swimming and surfing at Manly.

They had us at free beer or wine with Unilocal check-in! The establishment was a bit hard to find because the sign does not read FISH but a drawing of a fish. We ordered the grilled hoki with salad greens, pesto dipping sauce, and a slice of corn, $ 15AUD. We opted for outside seating and were given our alcoholic beverage of choice from checking in! Scored. The portions were generous. The hoki was perfectly cooked and fresh. The salad was a bit confused as it was crossing into Asian territory with bean sprouts and pickled ginger. Delicious nonetheless. I love the crispy baked carrots or yams that they top the salad with. It was a perfect light lunch. Service was friendly and quick. I highly recommend checking this place out if you’re in the Manly Beach area. Don’t forget to check in!!!

Manly Beach Lunch Fishmongers or Mongers Free beer or wine with check in from Unilocal! We ordered the Half Family Box $ 50 2 Hoki Fish, 2 Prawns, 2 Oysters, 4 Calamari, Hand Cut Chips, 2 Potato Cakes, Tartare Sauce, Sweet Chili Sauce and Lemon. This is what we expected Fish and Chips to be. They called their shop Gourmet Fish and Chips and they lived up to the reputation. Never mind the age old franchise Fish and Chips box we tried at Watson’s Bay. If you are going to eat Fish and Chips, this is the place! Presentation was beautifully done, with ribbons of fried yam contrasted against the golden goodness in the basket. The oyster was fresh shucked, tasted sweet and fresh with a touch of brine taste. The fish(Hoki) was lightly battered and tasted very light and tender inside. The calamari was perfectly tendered and not chewy at all. The shrimp was fried with the head and tail included to keep the meat moist. Very well done and not over fried at all. The potato cakes was surprisingly good and tasted more like a tempura squash and not French fried as one would expect. By the time we got to the hand cut fries, we were still happy, it’s very crispy and tasty. Great place to go for lunch if you are at Manly. They are located inside a little square(Rialto Square) by Coles, the supermarket. The staff are very friendly!

For battered fish and chips, I wouldn’t recommend as it was soggy but I would recommend trying the grilled fish, it has a yummy pesto and was cooked perfectly. I like the ginger it is served with. One other thing: I was surprised to find the lack of a line around lunch time, considering it was a weekend and a beautiful day — table seating was in abundance(not complaining).
