After reading the reviews for pat-a-cake I was expecting big things but to be honest I was underwhelmed. The pies were ok but no better or worse then numerous other bakeries. We also bought the baked crunchie cheese cake for my mother-in-laws birthday which was again ok but nothing to rave about.

I have fond memorries from here, thus eating the best home made meat pies after school, and in year 12. My mum would get them for me when she felt sorry for me studying. Naaaw, thanks ma. My usual was something along the lines of cheese and bacon, or a regular gourmet-style meat pie with tomato sauce. Just thinking about it is enticing me to make a drive down Duthy Street promto. Delicious. Additionally it’s a nice authentic style bakery, which is cosy and poses relevant parking by the side. Final thoughts: Mmmmm.

Want a giant cookies and cream cheesecake? Maybe a Gluten Free chocolate brownie cake. Maybe I got both. What of it? DELICIOUS! — sometimes not much more need be said. The fact that they have so many gluten free options was a major plus and the fact that a lot of their things are bite side and could be eaten immediately is also quite appealing. I had a cranky roll there once too an they even gave me BBQ sauce, which I am ashamed to say that I can not eat savoury pastries without. They have a nice little atmospheric and bright café for lunch and the home made looking dessert pies look very much like they cooled on a quaint windowsill. Really nice place to pass by and get some treats and/or lunch.

I actually don’t mind the coffee from Pat-a-Cake. Once I told them not to heat my milk up too hot, it was actually one of the better coffees I’ve had in Adelaide. But I don’t really go there for the coffee. Why do I go there? The sausage rolls, and the vanilla slices. Both are worth traveling the 45 minutes it takes me to get there(and I am not usually a sausage roll kinda girl). Everything tastes fresh, like it’s made daily(lets face it, it’s probably not-but so long as it tastes fresh).

It was the cute name that first drew me in. The delicious baked goods has kept me coming back. This bakery makes all that goodies on site including a wide variety of pies, pasties and sausage rolls. They also make delicious individual size cakes and desserts including, cheesecake slice, lemon tart and banana pie. The one thing that sets these guys apart from all the other bakeries is the large slabs of cakes made fresh each day. You can order a slice, a corner and mini slab or the whole whopping thing if you like. Choices usually include bee-sting, carrot, banana, chocolate and orange cake. It’s presented wrapped in Pat-a-Cake baking paper and is lovely to take to a morning tea at a friend’s house. Service is genuinely very helpful. Another great buy is the variety of home bake biscuits wrapped in a cellophane bag. If you could remove the sticker you could pass them off as your own. This place is popular for ordering large birthday cake a very reasonable prices. The bakery also has a café section offering coffee(mediocre), sandwiches and all of the goodies from the bakery can be served in the café. Oh, one more thing, they make lovely miniature desserts, great as a sweet treat after dinner with coffee.

Looking for a chicken pie on the weekend to cure your hangover; Pat-a-Cake home made goodies can provide that and more. I hope no-one I know reads this but if you’re holding a dinner party, Pat-a-Cake Bakery sell the most amazing deserts that look like they’re home made(and in a manner of speaking, they are). If, like me, you’re not a budding Masterchef, all you need to do is pop one of the Pat-a-cake deserts on a fancy plate or cake stand, dust with a sprinkling of icing sugar, strategically place a berry or two and voila, there is your exquisite dinner party desert. Did I mention chicken pie … Eat the chicken pie. Eat the chicken pie. Trust me it is a sure fire hangover cure. If chicken’s not your thing, then I highly recommend the potato pie, with a dollop of tomato sauce of course — it almost qualifies as 1 x meat and 1 x veg for the day. And … if you’re a fan of cocktail pies and pasties then this is the place for you. They sell a bag of mixed cocktail goodies that will have your mouth watering. You may even be tempted to eat them cold on the way home from the bakery. Now back to those deserts. Fancy a Violet Crumble Cheesecake or a Peach and Passionfruit Torte? Maybe their mini deserts like their tiny weeny Lemon or Banana Caramel Tarts are more your style. Then of course there’s the good old Chocolate Donut. Can anyone see my waistline expanding as I type?
